Video - Shooting TVM's Iron-Mounted flintlock PA Longrifle

It is viewing videos like that keeping my apatite wet to one day get a flintlock. Right now I only own a side lock percussion rifle - .50 Thompson PA Hunter.

    Sealing around the Frizzen Pan??

I remember someone recommending using ChapStick. Don't remember how it is applied, whether straigh fro the stick or going from stick to finger to pan.

    Conical recommendations

Wow, I've got a lot to learn about this traditional muzzleloading stuff. Here I thought that pulling the trigger is what saved me the trouble of removing lead from the bore. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll have to count the cost in both time and money before starting yet another "hobby".

    Conical recommendations

Thanks. Got my first BP (Goex ffG) just this afternoon. Also picked up some precut and lubed .018 T/C ticking patches. Anxious to shoot up the PA conicals (got to, I couldn't stand to have them laying around as a temptation and to frugal to just throw them away) and get to work optimizing with...

    Caliber - Stick With Same?

Thanks guys... Well I've now done enough reading and research to determine that if I were to get a flintlock today it would be in .54 caliber and slow twist. With a .54 I'm pretty sure I'd have no temptations or reasons to shoot anything other than PRB. Plenty for whitetail. Also, keeps things...

    Ticking Thickness

I went to a gun store recommended by a poster on another thread as to their might having BP. They did have BP and also had some T/C pre-lubed .018 thick pillow ticking, 100 count. Unfortunately they didn't have but .490 50 caliber ball size, which I already have. But with both .010 & .018...

BP Where to Buy in CT?

Thanks again. Was able to get to Autumn Gun Works and purchased 1 lb. of Goex ffG. $19.95 + CT Sales Tax.

    Conical recommendations

Hi, New to this stuff so please don't give to much weight to what I have to say. I have a percussion T/C PA Hunter (.50 1:66) from which I shoot both RB and Hornady PA Conicals (240 gr). PRB shot great for me but I listened to someone who told me that the PA Conicals would be better for...

    Ticking Thickness

I've read a bunch about folks going to Wal-Marts and such to get pillow ticking for making patches. I read .017 a lot as being the thickness of the ticking. Is this always the case or generally the case? Do you need to go to Wal-Marts or the fabric store with a micrometer or will/should the...

BP Where to Buy in CT?

Hi Matt, Been past Bare Hill Rd. many many times and never noticed the place. Think I'll just drop in one day. I'm a long time member of Algonquin Archers of Woodbury, CT. It looks like the gun shop is about 25 minutes from the club grounds. This time of the year I'm generally out to the...

BP Where to Buy in CT?

Hey, thanks a bunch. I live in Southbury so I'm guessing it'd be a ~35-40 minute drive. Are you familiar with the shop? Does it feature BP stuff? Looked at the range fees and man am I glad I'm able to shoot in my back yard even though it is only a 50 yard range. Thanks again, Bill K.

BP Where to Buy in CT?

What you say makes sense. Could be that in the back of my mind is the image/perception of guys and gals gravitating to flintlocks being more traditional than those of us with percussion sidelocks. Probably have to do more reading here than posting so that I don't continue to step into it because...

BP Where to Buy in CT?

No, I wasn't promoting that practice. Now that I think about it on the 777 bottle it says that it (777) can be used in a flintlock if you put some BP in first. Think they recommended 5 grains under the 777 load. Clueless as to why you'd want to load that way.

    Caliber - Stick With Same?

The pros for sticking with 50 is that the balls and jags remain the same. Maybe even patches of which I've only tried, in my PA Hunter, one thickness - .01 thus far. I wouldn't be shooting enough for economics to play in my decision.

    Caliber - Stick With Same?

I'm thinking I want a Flintlock added to my bucket list. I have a .50 caliber percussion rifle that I'll shoot in my back yard. I've had it out once for deer hunting but didn't get to take a deer with the gun. If I got a flintlock and got good enough with it I'd probably want to hunt deer with...

BP Where to Buy in CT?

Wow! Such quick replies. I had no idea that BP could be mail ordered and delivered to other then a business with some sort of special license. I "think" Cabela's in PA near Harrisburg does carry BP. I go by there several times a year to hunt my brother's property in Fulton County, PA; maybe...

BP Where to Buy in CT?

Hi, Do you happen to know of someplace in Connecticut where Black Powder is sold retail? I was @ Cabela's in East Hartford just a week or two ago; they do not carry BP in their CT store. GOOGLE search was of no help in finding a BP retailer. Thanks, Bill K.

    Maintain Hunting Load - How?

Thanks for the quick replys :applause:, I believe I'll shoot the gun in the evening, clean and then reload in the morning. Is cleaning with just patches sufficient (using 777 substitute powder) for the 3 day hunt and then a complete cleaning when I get home? Thanks again...

    Maintain Hunting Load - How?

Hi, I'm an experienced bowhunter and have been out several times hunting with my handgun but am new to ML hunting. Awhile back I bought a used percussion .50 cal. T/C PA Hunter. The rifle has been sighted in and I'm feeling confident shooting it out to maybe 60 yards or so. What I don't know...
