    Traditions Kentucky Pistol

Hehe. My mind is jumping, im going to eventually buy a flintlock pistol. Right now all I have are percussions. But, to save myself the hassle of buying two, can I just buy a steel file set and use that on wood? For finer filing/sanding, id use sandpaper. That should work right?

Wood file and steel file...can I use steel on wood?

    Traditions Kentucky Pistol

Yea its thick. Will sand paper work or do i need metal sand paper...if there is such a thing. Crazy where this adventure is taking me,I googled flintlock repair, found a bunch where people have parts and have lots of pistols. I emailed one to see if they would sell one cheaper disassembled...

So I have sand paper 60, 150, 220 grit. 0000 steel wool. Is this enough?

Can I file down the visible portion of the brass and somehow repolish it? Seems like a better idea than shaving the wood. Dont want to mess with the integrity

    Traditions Kentucky Pistol

Shaving down that wood still doesn't solve my problem. The right and left isnt flush, which is no problem as I can sand. But the bottom part of the brass sticks out too far. I can sand the bottom of the wooden part there, but i'm afraid of taking off too much wood and making it week...

Totally understand your tenons. I have them on my kentucky rifle im building. However, this pistol barrel did not come with such attachments. Am I able to drill a small hole (not all the way through) for a bolt to hold the barrel? Also, if I get rid of that little bit of wood...does it...

    Traditions Kentucky Pistol

What is a "Tenon to the barrel?" I'm not sure there is much I can do about that piece, don't know where to find another piece for it. So, i'm going to try and carefully describe my situation about that piece. The 2 screwholes in the barrel, 1 screwhole does line up with the hole on the...

    Traditions Kentucky Pistol

Well. Started on the project. Apparently everything fits, just need to push and pull a little. Running into some issues an had some questions #1) Is the trigger just loose? It just wobbles around, I feel like there should be something that keeps it taut. But nothing in my kit suggests...

    Traditions Kentucky Pistol

I meant in terms of building. I would also be building from a Kit, not sanding and making the inlet by hand. I really don't trust myself enough yet. So I'm pretty sure between a flintlock and percussion, it's simply placing it in the already carved out area. So with a kit, there is no...

Is a flintlock that much different than a percussion? It comes all together from Traditions I think

    Traditions Kentucky Pistol

thank you. That is kind of why I went with a cheaper pistol too. To practice twice (pistol and my previous percussion kentucky rifle) then buy 2 higher priced ones. Pedersoli has a Kentucky Pistol for slightly more than the Traditions Pirate pistol, except...it doesn't have that bottom brass...

    Traditions Kentucky Pistol

Well, i've embarked on another project. The Traditions Kentucky Pistol, I bought it from http://www.oldsouthfirearms.com/ and it had pretty fast shipping along with great prices. I don't know if I'm stupid or not, but I could've just paid extra $25 for the fully assembled and functioning one...

I heard a rumor that UPS Drivers make pretty good pay

    Setting the price

Yup studies have shown people are more willing yo buy if you discount the price. I sometimes price my items 30% hihher than what i want as i know ill grt the "whats the lowest you can go". I honestly hate people who ask that, i rather prefer a number thrown at me. I used to get into hissy...

    First time flintlock build

Pretty sure i understood what you wrote. Seems like i will have to be spot on. Once i get those holes drilled and pass those rods through, do j close it up with wood putty or glue to make sure.the 2 rods stay?

I actually see these pins on the manual now. "Barrel tenon pin" theyre placed right above the ramrod assembly but im not seeing any holes anywhere for this yo go
