    Cutting patches at the Muzzle

I seat the ball a smidge below the muzzle - so the knife doesn't contact the ball. I do this with the rounded wooden part of a short starter. There is just enough rounded curve on the starter to get the ball just below the muzzle.

    linnen...pillow ticking??

I bought some cotton drill 40 from JoAnns. It mic'd at .0167 - .0168 before washing. After a wash and dry, it mic'd at .0183 - .0184. I'm not sure how it got thicker - but it's too thick now for .530 ball in my new GPR.

    Lyman 17A on a GPR

 Well I went with the suggestion to modify the dovetail and it works great. I cut the stock dovetail off and ground the base flat. Then I used a small cut-off wheel on a Dremel to shape the new dovetail, doing the final fit and finish with a small file. Some steel wool and a quick...

    Lyman 17A on a GPR

So I bought a Lyman 17AEU front globe sight for my Lyman GPR. The rifle manual says that is the proper size sight to use. I miked the stock blade sight male dovetail at .342" wide, but the 17AEU male dovetail is .360" wide and will not go in the slot. Do folks file it down to fit? or use the...

    Your impressions of Lyman GPR?

Bill - what is a 'good' nipple? Is the stock nipple poor? Claypipe - what patch thickness do you use for the .535 RB? What is a good starting point for GPR roundball? Should I get both .530 and .535, along with .015 and .018 patches and start experimenting?

    One-stop shopping on the web?

I've been searching around the web for muzzleloading supplies and was wondering if there are some outfits that you might consider as having the largest selection, quality, value, etc.? In other words, where does everybody shop for their stuff? Thanks, Steve

    Your impressions of Lyman GPR?

After chatting with a couple fellows locally, I ended up buying the GPR and giving round-ball a go first, and leaving the option of getting a GPH barrel later if I desire. I drew a permit for winter muzzleloader for up to five whitetails. This should be fun. Thanks again. Steve

    Your impressions of Lyman GPR?

Thank you all very much for your comments. I think I will go with the GPH, and always have the option of a seperate GPR barrel for round-ball fun. Steve

    Your impressions of Lyman GPR?

I've had a T/C Renegade Hunter .54 for 10 years now. I'm having the itch to try something else now and was looking at the Lyman. I like the 'feel' of it much better than the Renegade (I've never liked the butt and comb shape of the Renegade stock - it just does not feel comfortable to me)...
