Beeswax/lard mix - how long is it good for?

I've had a small jar of homemade 60/40 lard/beeswax mix in my range box for almost two years, and it still smells lightly of honey and nothing else. If your lard is pure before mixing with the wax, it can go a long time.

    blowing down the barrel, etc...

It takes a tad more time, but I was taught years ago (in the hunter education course required in my state) to run a spit patch followed by a dry patch down the bore after each shot. Never had a problem doing it that way. I confess I don't always do this in the field, but always thought any...

    huntin lodes

Seems to me that if the gun is loaded and you have a license, yer huntin'. If not, I've wasted a whole lotta money and time sitting around like an idiot staring at the trees!

How much ammo do you carry hunting?

Like mrfishnhunt, I take ten .32 PRBs in a bullet board for squirrel, and 3 .50 cal speedloaders plus a load in the pipe for whitetail. I'm never more than 30 minutes from my house or truck -- if I were going deep woods or for an overnight trip, I'd bring much more for just-in-case. In my...

First time out with new .32 Deerhunter

With 20 grains fff Goex and a .310 ball patched with denim or ticking (about .020) soaked in rendered pork fat/beeswax lube, I've seen one that will shoot into a half inch dot at 20 yards all day long -- perfect squirrel range.

    1860 Army loose barrel/frame fit...

The cylinder pin is tight. I'll get the new wedge and report back. Thanks again.

    1860 Army loose barrel/frame fit...

It's a little rough on the muzzle side of the wedge hole in the cylinder pin, but no major blockage. The wedge hole on the left side of the barrel seems battered slightly wider that the hole on the right side. I can. Well, I just tried inserting the wedge through the right side, and it all...

    1860 Army loose barrel/frame fit...

Thanks for the advice and tech specs, Zonie -- the wide end of the wedge is very close to .5 inch, definitely not 1/32 more than half. On close inspection, I notice that the edge of the wedge that faces the muzzle end is dented a bit, and the edge that faces the cylinder is bulging a bit. It...

    1860 Army loose barrel/frame fit...

The wedge screw is tightened all the way. It was tested without the screw in, so the wedge could be tapped in a bit further, but the looseness remained. Your idea that the cylinder pin slot might be misaligned sounds probable -- thanks.

    1860 Army loose barrel/frame fit...

Even with the wedge driven in all the way, there seems to be too big a gap between both the cylinder and forcing cone, and where the frame pins go into the barrel recesses. If the barrel is pushed against the frame, the gaps disappear. The steel frame Pietta gun has not been shot much more...

    .32 Percussion Left-hand?

I haven't been able to find a .32 left-hand on the DGW site -- can you please post a link to the page?

    .32 Percussion Left-hand?

I'd love to lay my mitts on a traditionally styled new .32 percussion sidelock designed for lefties, but know of none produced by the major manufacturers. Does such a beast exist, or am I doomed(!)to pay for a custom job? Thanks!
