    Removing wedge

I used a wooden dowel from a craft store and it worked great getting the wedge partially out. Guess I could use a brass punch to knock it all the way out.

    Removing wedge

Is it best to use a hammer of some sort to tap out the wedge on a rifle or a punch? Some say brass hammer or rubber or plastic. Others say use a punch. I know they make a tool for this made from steel, but won't that mark the gun?

    T/C Hawken .54

Since he only fire it a couple of times, doubt if he used conicals, but who knows. Plan on giving it a good cleaning this weekend.

    T/C Hawken .54

Am pretty stoked today. Went by the gunshop and got the T/C .54 Hawken percussion rifle. He was asking $400 for it. After a little back and forth, I got it for $350, with no sales tax and he threw in 1lb of Pyrodex RS. This gun is in great shape. The bore is a little dusty, but that is an easy...

    T/C Hawken .54

BP rifles are hard to come by in my neck of the woods. And as I stated before, don't like buying online. Want to see it and hold it. Will give it the fit test when I go in tomorrow. There is another gun shop down the road that has some rifles, but most are in nowhere near the condition this T/C...

    T/C Hawken .54

Being in the Peoples Republic of Kalifornia, prices are higher. The T/C Hawken I am looking at runs about $800 if not more new. I have checked around on many online sites and the .54's are pricey and hard to find. This one is like new. So, basically it is half the cost of a new one. I am going...

    T/C Hawken .54

Will try to talk him down.If he won't budge, then I might pass...although it is talking to me real loud!! :yakyak: I think one of the things that I like about it is that it was fired only a couple of times. The guy originally bought it for hunting, then decided it was too much work. Sold it and...

    T/C Hawken .54

That is what I plan on doing. Will take some time and give it a good once over. Have bought other BP accessories from this guy, so I am a customer. He had 4 other rifles that he has sold. This one is the best of the lot as far as condition. The others were cheaper, but not as clean or as good a...

    T/C Hawken .54

Will go back and check out the .54 Hawken I saw at the local gunshop. Like I said, it looks brand new and the shop owner said it had only been fired a couple of times before being hung on the wall, then sold. I have a bore light, so will check that out. No blemishes on the barrel or other metal...

    T/C Hawken .54

I think I misspoke!! The Hawken I saw for $475 was used. The new ones run over $700!! This is going to put a kink in my timetable for sure. :cursing:

    T/C Hawken .54

Nothing comes with the Hawken I looked at. I looked for an hour today and can't find a new one listed anywhere. Did they discontinue the .54? Found plenty of new .50's with a price of $475 or so. Would rather get something new, so might go with the .50 instead. Thanks for the input.

    T/C Hawken .54

Have been looking at a pre-owned Thompson Center .54 cal Hawken. It looks almost new. Gun shop owner said the guy only fired it a couple of times and decided he did not like it. Asking price is $400. Can't seem to find one online to see what "new" price is. Does $400 sound right?
