    3fff or 4ffff

3f at all times. Used 4f for years but did have problems with moisture and did miss a deer once due to wet prime. It gets really humid down here. Switched to 3f and never looked back.

Having 2nd thoughts about the .45cal Lancaster...

I guess a man can reach a point where he has too many muzzleloaders but only he can make that call. Maybe you don't need that 45 Lancaster but I bet it would get used, I've read to many of your posts, you love to shoot and hunt and your good at both. I always enjoy reading about your hunts and...

Active morning in the squirrel woods

Last week I was doing a little squirrel hunting with my 36 caliber flint rifle. I missed a couple of shots at squirrels that morning so thought I would do a bit of plinking as I made my way to the truck. After a few shots I noticed my flint was loose so I sat down and reached in my bag for a...

    So Who REALLY Loves BP?

Muzzleloaders only for me for the last several years. Can't see ever going back to modern guns. Nothing aganist them just enjoy the muzzleloaders more. Like others here I have sold most of my modern rifles to have new muzzleloaders built.

    50 or 54

If you go with an early rifle go with the 54. Same thing if you plan to do a lot of hunting. For a later southern gun go with a 50. Both calibers will knock a deer on its rear. That being said I just dont like a southern rifle over 50 and really like 45 in that style of rifle.

    Patch size for .480 Ball?

If you can find thick enough patching you will not need the corn meal. I have shot a 480 ball out of my 50 cal rifle with .18 pillow ticking with good results.

First Range Trip new .45cal Virginia

I have never killed a deer with a 45 calber so I can't speak to that. I can say that my 45 TVM will shoot the best group of any of my 3 rifles so far. I wouldnt be afraid to use it out to 60 yards on deer. MAYBE I'll get the chance this year. Sounds like Roundball has a real shooter there.
