    Smooth bore recoil?

    I am only suggesting this as a SWAG. Wouldn't pushing a ball through a rifled barrel create more resistance, which would create more rearward force (recoil)? What about the shape and width of the usual smoothbore stock, don't they spread the felt recoil over a larger area compared to a rifle?
