    Minie Recommendation

Had to dig out my mold. Its a 575213. Have always used 60 grains FF. The balls are measuring .575". Where to buy a few larger balls to try?

    Minie Recommendation

I have a 70's Zoli Zouave and Lyman minie mold that have never given me exceptional accuracy. The minie seems undersized to the point that I'm afraid it might slide out of the barrel if carried muzzle down. Not too bad after a fowling shot. What other minies have provided good results in a Zouave?

Very stuck minie ball, tried everything having to pull the breech plug

I'm not familiar with the 1861 Springfield, however after looking at my Zouave I'm thinking I could remove the nipple and pass a wire through into the chamber to determine if the minie ball skirt is blocking the path of ignition. Worming a wire having a sharp tip should produce lead shavings if...

Barrel Browning with Laurel MTN product

I am not a fan of the accelerated / fast result browning methods and get excellent results with the traditional slow rusting solution. I prefer a more polished surface finish and this one by Wahkon Bay works best for me. They apparently have patent protection on their formula. TOW has developed...

    Flint knapping?

Have you collected any agate pieces and what size are we discussing? Gun flints are made from blades which are struck for cores. This video does a good job in showing the process.

    Advice on Swiss powder

☝️☝️☝️ In my .54 Hawken, equal powder charges of Goex and Swiss impact 6 inches apart in elevation at 100 yards.

    Question About Lighting

The best lighting aid I have purchased is a pair of magnifying glasses with three levels of illumination and interchangeable lenses. They were not very expensive and really help with the fine detail work.

    Advice on Swiss powder

Swiss is great powder and its all I have been buying recently for use in my rifles. However, it does burn hotter and generate higher velocity and I have found I get better patterns in my fowler with reduced loads of Goex. The Swiss may work just fine but you may have to back off on the powder...

    Gardening ..again

I think it would kill it from the high salt content. Edit - Plus, they say saltpeter keeps the sprout from rising..... 😄
