What to do with worn out flints?

👆👆👆 I even made a holding clamp for pressure flaking. The flints can be a little difficult to hold firmly by finger pressure alone.

What to do with worn out flints?

Define "worn out" . I pressure flake frequently to reestablish a sharp edge. When they become too short, I chuck them out.

    Who's got the best lube?

After decades of extensive experimentation....it is my opinion that grease is slippery and some greases are slipperier than others. And that natural organic greases are preferable over man made hydrocarbon greases and that mutton tallow is the king of organic slippery greases. It is also my...

    Do you gut your deer?

I like your knife. What model is it? A short blade makes it much easier to reach way up inside and cut the wind pipe.

    Do you gut your deer?

Those who can split. Those who can't zip.

    Do you gut your deer?

There is a central seam that runs down the pelvis which you can locate with your finger. After opening the stomach cavity reach inside the pelvis with your finger and feel for a ridge. This is the interior side of the seam. With your knife you can split that seem from the outside with moderate...

    Do you gut your deer?

Oh yeah, I forgot. Go back to the gut pile the next day and wait for coyotes. :)

    Do you gut your deer?

Easy to remove the rectum. All the fecal matter and bacteria stays in the field.

    Do you gut your deer?

Gut it where it drops. Granddad taught me how to split the pelvis by feeling for the ridge on the underside. He never carried a sheath knife and could do it with only a Case pocket knife. I've done several with a Buck 110 folder but the older the deer the more difficult the split. Skin 'em as...

    Rubbing magnesium on frizzen ?

Don't confuse titanium with ferrocerium which is what the socalled fire steel rods are made from.

    Rubbing magnesium on frizzen ?

    Magnesium does not spark.

    Rubbing magnesium on frizzen ?

Sounds like hog wash to me. Magnesium shavings will burn, however the bar used to make the sparks is made of ferrocerium and it doesn't rub off.

    How many years Muzzleloading experience?

53 years. Started with a 58 Zouave, then a TC Hawken. There was a mid-life period during which I concentrated on handguns and about 20 years ago started building my own Muzzle loaders.

    Staining walnut

A friend is working on an Investarms Hawken kit. It has a fairly light colored walnut stock. I've only worked with curly maple and aqua fortis. Any suggestions on staining the walnut would be appreciated.
