Questions on my first black powder from NC

Actually get a slightly larger bearing surface contact all the way out the pointy end, and are less apt to shift under recoil.

    Civil war knife?

According to a compilation of Civil War letters, most carried tomahawks and huge, broad-bellied knives for slashing-and-stabbing. These were thrown away very early on by the Infantry.

    Black powder beginner

Yeah. Then I'm in the wrong place. I'm hardly likely to learn anything that'll be of use to me furthering my project. I'll jus' take my possibles bag an' sneak out the back.

    First post, maybe some advice?

That's interesting. I've had Pedersolis in .45 an' .50 an' they're all 1:48. I will relace my barrel with a .45 Rice fast-twist. Ordered it back in September, so I'm halfway down the waitin' list. I wanna sit on my back porch an' shoot a brightly spraypainted orange 1/2" steel at 300 yds. Every...

I'm new here also. Is there a list or something bout what's not kosher? Like a link to the Haram List? I was told earlier that we ain't s'posed to talk about sabots out of flinters to increase range, but I figgered it was jus' somebody ribbin' the new guy.

I used to own a whole bunch of them. They have all seemed to migrate to my son's room. Sure to become an issue if I ever find caps... Questions, throw 'em out there. Even if'n I can't help you, somebody else might, an' mayhaps I get to learn somethin' also. Welcome from Rifle Country.

Seeking advice on a Long Rifle for 1st flintlock purchase

Pedersoli locks are fine. My frontier has a L&R Ketland lock on it. That's because I just lost patience with Elisa at Pedersoli, not because the S.400 (If I recall) lock has issues.

Seeking advice on a Long Rifle for 1st flintlock purchase

I'm building a custom off a Pedersoli frontier. My main issue is that the barrel ain't pinned. It's mounted with the ferrule screws. Every time I clean the rifle it seems I lose one. I have a stash of them now. Of the repro powder guns out there, Pedersoli undoubtedly leads the field. This is...

    First post, maybe some advice?

There we go! That's what I Yeah, however it's what it is right now. I bought it as a project. I wanted to build my own but I'm a little short on skill with wood. I found this one and it has a fairly pretty maple stock. So far it's shooting, but I have to wait a few more months for my turn with...

    Conical Terminal Performance Research

Update: There will be no velocity data available on Sunday. Amazon just delivered my new chrony. It's one them pre-broken models it seems.

    First post, maybe some advice?

A'ight, pull up a rock an' set. 'Splain that to you real quick. See, I use 777 as a propellant. I keep that in the powder horn. I prime the pan with 4F Swiss. I keep that in a tiny brass priming flask. How it works is the flint sets the Swiss on fire, an' the Swiss sets off the 777. Hope that...

Felony was not my intent. I am but a layman in a quest for wisdom.

I'd agree. Velocities obtainable with BP really leaves bullet weight as the only variable.

Now it makes sense. I was thinkin' if'n this feller figgers 300yds is up close an' personal, I sure am glad I ain't never shot again' him in a match.

That's really interesting. I am familiar with paper-patching, but never done it. Something I plan to remedy one of these days, possibly using solid copper projectiles. That said, I'm outta here. I don't think I'll get far seeking information where said information is haram.

Thank you. It's a .50 until I get the custom .45 barrel. I'm not trying to find a perfect bullet. Not just yet. I'm trying to find out the principles impacting the trajectory to establish a point to start working from. It's not about reaching the destination. The pleasure's in the journey itself.

I don't think I understand. 300 yds is only up close an' personal with artillery.

    Some Percussion Cap News

I have a mixed batch of #10 CCI an' #11 Dynamit Nobel, totalling 23. I think I'll do the same.
