    Best Char?

Marc, There is a lot of info and opinions out there on this, 100% cotton t-shirts work fine, just a little flimsy. Lamp wick, or jean weight denim are just as good, but tougher. My 2 cents worth, hope it helps.

    Wool Covered Canteens

My wool cover is as much a carrier as cover. It is open topped, with straps, you slide the canteen in or out as you wish. There is an easy way to have a top that opens, but without pictures my description might be confusing more than helpful.

    drying hamburger?

Let me know how that works out for you. Similar experience years back led me to the way I do it now. Found by scrambling it first I was able to get it to a fine texture, which in turn dehydrated quite fast. I suppose as long as you get your pieces dry enough you can crunch them however fine you...

    drying hamburger?

I guess I need to clarify what I said. I did say to dehydrate the burger after scrambling it. I have had better luck dehyradating after scrambling the burger. I have had the dehydrated burger keep in jars for over a year with no ill effects. The cooking part was when you rehydrate the burger.

    drying hamburger?

Do it often, scramble it in a pan till cooked, then dehydrate. Tastes great when re-hydrated. It and re-hydrated diced potatoes scrambled together makes a good easy meal.

    Bi-centennial Besses

I have some pictures. If anyone is interested in seeing them please email me since I can't get them on this post. I was told by someone (in the know) the lock was Italian. I have no way of confirming this as there are no markings. This is the package deal out of the Dixie catalog mentioned in...

    Bi-centennial Besses

In "71" I bought an English made Bess from Dixie, it was made by Coach Harness Ltd. It has what I think is a maple stock, hand inlet for everything, the 46" barrel was forged around a mandrel and uses a steel liner in the breech. It has a steel ramrod. They did ,however, use an Italian made...
