    Re-bore a 50 cal t-c

If Mr. Hoyt does it - it will be done right and you get the added benifit of a 54. I had him do my A&H for me and am quite satisfied. As a 50 it shot great but I wanted to go 54 after a couple seasons with my 54 Beck. The 54 is the perfect big deer medicine.

    2 new rifles

Just got my Halleck back from Bob Hoyt. Went 50 to 54 - was quoted 100 but sent 125 as it seemed low. Job looks good - waiting on weather now. Have no doubts it'll shoot as his rep is flawless. Dovetails and screw holes will dictate what can be done.

    choosing 36 caliber

I also favor the .40 I run .40 for small and .54 for big. I can't build :rotf: But??? If I had it to do all over?? I'd have dumped all my apples on a 54-62 smooth rifle. Boy would that have been a looker because of the $$$ I have tied up in these. If your starting out just build something as...

    Rear sight location

I order my sight put where I can focus on it. Next one will be a little further out. If you can't use them why have them. With 44" bbl there is still enough sighting plane. My next will be 46" I think and I'll move my rear out a little. Boy I miss my young eyes

If i had about 1,000 dollars...

I skimped and saved and came up with a down payment on a custom build - It was worth every trouble to get it. I've shot it for 6 years now and every time I even think of maybe a new iron I pick up my 54 Beck and just laugh it off. A custom from a good builder just blows the cookie cutter guns...

.40cal Double Ball Accuracy test: Figure 8’s at 50yds

I brought this up about 5 years ago and got hammered then. I'm still here. It is internal ballistics and not that big of deal. As long as they are held tight on the charge projectile weight dictates powder charge. As long as your not running at the redline let your rifle tell you if it works...

    How are tapered ramrods made?

I chuck them in a drill and spin and sand. Sand paper gets hot so watch out. Check your original if you have one with calipers and have at it - long ones require toe dexterity. I have extras for all mine - worked for me

What is your .40 cal load?

I had a Rice 40" and ran .390,.395 and .398's All with various patching and lubes. Shot everything well one of the nicest bbl's I've had - pittys me I sold it. Pick a starting point around 40fff and every time you go out try something new at the end of the session - your rifle willtell you when...
