    H&A "The Off hand"

The pin is tapered-bigger in diameter on one end than the other. It needs to be driven out from right to left (when viewed from the shooting position). Use a brass drift pin and hammer. They can be quite stubborn if they haven't been removed in a while.I remove mine every time I clean it, so...

    wedge capture?

I'd recommend bending the wedges rather than the tenons, especially if the tenons are soldered to the barrel.I recently purchased a Sharon Hawken kit gun where the builder had bent the tenons and they both have come off when fired.

Can anyone give me a source for a patch cutter? I'd like to start making my own. Thanks.

    H&A Underhammer Ramrod Pipe

Negative. The triggerguard(which is the mainspring) is blued steel. What I did was cut the front piece off a sandcast brass triggerguard from TOW and attached the back as a brass grip rail.

    Sharon Hawken Kit

If you google "Sharon Rifle Barrel Company Catalog" you'll find a vintage catalog auction(that's unfortunately already closed). The guns came out under the Sharon Rifle Barrel Company name and,if mine is typical, the name is engraved on the top of the barrel just in front of the tang. They were...

    Sharon Hawken Kit

I'm not only new to this forum, but to Photobucket too. As you can see from my previous post, I was having trouble uploading these photos. They got lost somewhere along the way. So how did you end up with them?

    Sharon Hawken Kit

Don't think so. This looks a lot more like a Hawken than my T/C. Might have to part with it.

    H&A Underhammer Ramrod Pipe

I drilled the heads off the rivits, removed the pipe and browned the barrel. The rivits appear to be hard steel. I've already busted two 1/16" bits trying to drill them out with my drill press. Might have to get some professional help.

    Sharon Hawken Kit

I recently saw a used Hawken Rifle at the local gun store. The attached tag said "Kit" where the manufacturer is usually listed. The builder had filed off the markings on the top of the barrel so I couldn't identify where it came from, but the bore looked good so I bought it for $199.Under...

    H&A Underhammer Ramrod Pipe

Finally! Here's my project gun.The plan is to take an out-of-production production gun and make it look like it was built in 1830-1840 New England. And to gain some knowledge along the way without screwing it up too badly. I've already replaced the plastic buttstock with brass, browned the action...

    H&A Underhammer Ramrod Pipe

Thanks for the reply.I'm sure now that my pipe is rivited on. I'll remove it and figure a way to rerivit later.

Only if I can figure out how to post pictures to this forum.

    H&A Underhammer Ramrod Pipe

I checked with a lens and good light. The two small fasteners are definitely not allen screws. They are solid and have rounded tops(like rivit heads). Any suggestions short of drilling them out and latter soldering the pipe back on?

    H&A Underhammer Ramrod Pipe

Refurbishing an H&A underhammer ("The Offhand" in .45 Cal). Want to strip and brown the barrel. Would like to remove the ramrod pipe before I proceed. Does anyone know how these were attached? They appear to have two expanding rivets. How would I re-attach? (I'd like to stay away from soldering...
