I recently saw a used Hawken Rifle at the local gun store. The attached tag said "Kit" where the manufacturer is usually listed. The builder had filed off the markings on the top of the barrel so I couldn't identify where it came from, but the bore looked good so I bought it for $199.Under inspection with a magnifying glass at home, I was able to make out "Sharon Rifle Barrel Company".The .50 cal barrel is 1"X34&5/8" with 8 lands and grooves.I think the half stock is maple, although I'm not sure. Weight is ten pounds. I've since learned more about Sharon barrels and their kits.I'm glad I bought it. Could anyone provide me with more info or a copy of a Sharon manual or cataloque? Thanks.

I'm not only new to this forum, but to Photobucket too. As you can see from my previous post, I was having trouble uploading these photos. They got lost somewhere along the way. So how did you end up with them?

When you look at your pics, there is a box on the lower right...just click on the img code and then paste in your dialog box....

Kinda like pointing out to a guy that his dog is butt ugly, specially if he's trying to sell it. He knows it, but he sure doesn't want to hear it!

Nice find.
A buddy was gifted a similar rifle a few months ago. I'm curious what name brand they came out under and if they were in kit form. :idunno:

If you google "Sharon Rifle Barrel Company Catalog" you'll find a vintage catalog auction(that's unfortunately already closed). The guns came out under the Sharon Rifle Barrel Company name and,if mine is typical, the name is engraved on the top of the barrel just in front of the tang. They were offered both in finished and kit form. This particular undated catalog lists prices as $450 finished and $250 kit for the halfstock model. If anyone has more info on these I'd sure like to learn more.

Hall Sharon was a great fellow ,but a bit of a poor business man. his last shop was in sonora,ca. he was a fine builder and had a good barrel rifling machine. it ended up in a junk yard in las vegas.
the guns would shoot with the best at the time.there were several west coast builders that went to Kalspell,Mt.in the 70's-80's. home of the Mt Men and all that stuff. starved to death and moved on.
I have a.45 x 62 twist sharon that will jump into some wood soon.
just some fodder for this thread.
