wad ideas

Yes sir thats the stuff. It can be kind of crunchy at times and it grows prolific by my house. I figure I will give it try when I get time.

    wad ideas

I was walking my local Florida woods and was pondering some of the wad post's Ive read on this site, and was wondering if there are records or if anyone here has tried to use deer lichen and/or cabbage palm hair for wad materials? I thought the lichen might work much like felt wads for over...

    SXS smoothbore?

I am new to ML shotguns, but I wanted a sxs with flexibility of PRB and turkey shot without the heavy weight or heavy price that I have seen with some sxs's. I see quite a few people use PRB in smoothbore's. Having a second shot and a shorter, lighter ML in the woods of Florida should work just...

    SXS smoothbore?

Finished redoing the stock. I found on the back side of the locks and stamped into the wood the number 53. Wondering if that might be the year of manufacture. I am assuming this is a Dixie Gun Works reproduction, and I think they had not started doing them that early. The supplies, RB, patches...

Can I use a carbon arrow for a ramrod?

Or should I? The one that came with the sxs is real flimsy. I had an old carbon arrow that works for size and length. I can order ends and pin them on(?) but it is a good idea or just buy the right one.

    top coat advise please

I appreciate all the advise. I went with varnish based on the danish oil being a mixed varnish product. The first coat soaked in nicely and I have a total of three at the moment. I will see what I think when this coat dries.

    top coat advise please

[/img] I am redoing a stock on a sxs 20g replica. It is beech and was pretty poor looking finish job. It's a very no frills gun. I'll be actively using it for hunting and the top coat will need to hold up to the swamps of Florida. I wanted it to be fairly dark but not lose the figure of...

    Double Load!

I had to push a ball out once and I simply used my brass shotgun cleaning rod and it worked perfectly, just take the cylinder off the gun feed it through the nipple hole and give the handle of the cleaning rod a whack and presto!

    SXS smoothbore?

sounds like a good habit to start. I am gathering up supplies, I'll post my results. By the way, what is this a copy of? I assume it's a dixie gun works made replica.

    First smokepole piggy

The twist is 1/60 and figured RB was it. I did try maxi-hunters with poor results in the past. Yesterday I tried buffalo bullets and hornady conical and they showed promising results. Just a little more drop. I know it's not meant to take them, but against pigs, I feel under-gunned. I am looking...

    I used a .440 ball with .015 patch over 50gr. of fffg 777

    First smokepole piggy

Yes it is. It shots good, I am just not sure how much of a hog I can drop with it.

    First smokepole piggy

I was about 15 yards with a small window that was clear. I hit a little up from the elbow, usually that takes the heart/lungs but it just got the front of the lungs. I am used to using a slug(shotgun).

    First smokepole piggy

First muzzleloader success actually. We have lots of wild hog here in Florida and It's my preferred hunt animal. I went to a WMA that is very scrubby and unfortunately gives the hog the advantage. They see you before you see them a lot of the time. I managed to get pretty close before I ran out...

    SXS smoothbore?

Lots of great info everyone. Thanks! looks like I need to get some supplies and see what it shoots with best. I'll let you know how it goes.

    SXS smoothbore?

[/img] The one on the left is from my kentucky long rifle. The one on the right is from the sxs. They both thread in freely with just a slight wiggle and seat well. The 6x1mm was from dixie. Hope that helps.

    SXS smoothbore?

So is there any reason why I shouldn't be able to shoot round ball from these barrel's? I'm used to the thick octagon barrel's on my rifles and to me these look thin. Still kinda new to this stuff.

    SXS smoothbore?

]20g I am wondering what is it a replica of? I see pedersoli has a similar but fancy model.]Link Thanks for the info everyone. It cleaned up pretty good, just a light pitting. I need to replace the ramrod it is slightly cracked already. I need to figure out the nipple on it. They...

    SXS smoothbore?

I picked up a modern replica AMR C20 dbl. barrel at a recent gun show and I have researched all I can find on its history. I am hoping to be able to shoot round ball as well as shot for turkey from this gun. Anyone have any advice for a new smoothie owner? I'm looking for load data but there's...
