So is there any reason why I shouldn't be able to shoot round ball from these barrel's? I'm used to the thick octagon barrel's on my rifles and to me these look thin. Still kinda new to this stuff.

Most any 12 gauge will do the deed with a patched .690 ball ans 80 grains of Fg or FFg.. Be aware that a double that most can afford is not 'regulated' like the much more costly double rifles and it may take a little tinkering to find the right combo to put them both in a group that doesn't look like a buckshot pattern on steroids! They are hugely entertaining!

The one on the left is from my kentucky long rifle. The one on the right is from the sxs. They both thread in freely with just a slight wiggle and seat well. The 6x1mm was from dixie. Hope that helps.

Lots of great info everyone. Thanks! looks like I need to get some supplies and see what it shoots with best. I'll let you know how it goes.

get into the habit of dropping your RR down the still loaded barrel when your reloading. It reminds you to retamp the OPW in the unfired barrel.

sounds like a good habit to start. I am gathering up supplies, I'll post my results.
By the way, what is this a copy of? I assume it's a dixie gun works made replica.

Finished redoing the stock. I found on the back side of the locks and stamped into the wood the number 53. Wondering if that might be the year of manufacture. I am assuming this is a Dixie Gun Works reproduction, and I think they had not started doing them that early. The supplies, RB, patches, wads, came the other day form Log Cabin Shop (real nice fella) and I am ready for testing.

Funny thing happened while looking for a container to store 75 .600 balls. Turns out they fit nicely in this bottle. Now I can tell piggies to take two and call me in the morning. :rotf:

IF I was going to shoot PRB or Minie balls in a SxS scattergun, I would consider having one or both barrels rifled.
(I plead "guilty as charged" as a fan of CapeGuns, Paradox guns and ML double rifles.= I'm "gathering my nickles & dimes" to have a gunsmith, who is an artist & a member of this forum, make me a 12x12 CapeGun for hunting in Africa in Aug/Sep 2015.)

I am new to ML shotguns, but I wanted a sxs with flexibility of PRB and turkey shot without the heavy weight or heavy price that I have seen with some sxs's. I see quite a few people use PRB in smoothbore's. Having a second shot and a shorter, lighter ML in the woods of Florida should work just fine.

IF I could have only ONE ML for worldwide hunting, it would be a "plain vanilla" SxS CapeGun in .58 (rifled 1 in 48") & a 12 bore smoothie.

Loaded properly with shot on one side & with a 500+ grain Minie ball in the rifled barrel, I wouldn't be afraid to tackle anything from quail, squirrels & bunnies to African plains game and BIG cats.
(According to numerous 19th Century "white hunters", the ML scattergun loaded with 00 or 000 buckshot and a HEAVY load of BP was "perfection in lion medicine".)

IF I was going after REALLY BIG GAME (Including the Grizzley or Polar bears), I would have the CapeGun done in 10bore with a HEAVIER caliber rifled barrel.
(Some 10-12 years ago, The National Firearms Museum had a .66cal.x 10bore CapeGun on display that had reportedly killed numerous Asian Gaur and "many Tigers & Panthers in British India".= It was built in the UK for a Mogul prince.)
