    Flints Breaking

I've tried flints from about 3 different sources, both black English and agate, and have tried both bevel up and bevel down. I'll try a different piece of leather and back off the pressure on the jaws a little bit and see what happens. The edge pretty much disintegrates when it hits the...

    Flints Breaking

It happens with both black English flints and with agate flints. I like the black English flints better because they seem to through more spark. Both types get equally destroyed after only 2 or 3 shots though. The flint is striking about halfway up the frizzen and I am almost positive that the...

    Hammer Won't Fall

I was looking at a older (maybe 1970's) T/C Hawkin flintlock, but when you pull the trigger the hammer won't fall. The flint doesn't strike the frizzen, it just goes to halfcock. This happens both when you use the set trigger first and when just the front trigger is pulled. I tried maybe 25...

    Flints Breaking

My flints keep breaking after only a couple shots? It's a Lyman GPR made from a kit. Any ideas that might remedy this problem? Thanks.

I've shot about 70 of them so far. I've been pretty happy with their performance thus far. Just bought another box couple months ago for $14.99 per 100. I'm shooting the .530's in my .54 flint by the way.

    sighting in / finishing advice

I agree 90 grains of FFFg is a pretty stiff load. 100 grains of FFFg is listed as the maximum load for .535 round balls in the Lyman manual. I shoot 80 grains of 2FFg out my .54 GPR.

    Liquid Patch Lube for Hunting

Is it ok to use a liquid patch lube for hunting (like moose milk) or is a paste (like bore butter) a better option. Also considering the rifle may stay loaded for several days.
