    Little Leman marked but ....

That's what the gunsmith said yesterday. The tang was probably already cracked when it was overloaded with modern powder. It's a little shocking to see so many trigger guards and triggers in the Dixie book: and none are made for the Jamestown rifle. With approximately 50K of them made. What is...

    Little Leman marked but ....

Great advice. I'm helping the PO redo his main bathroom. And until we place the potty down; I've got him hostage.

    Little Leman marked but ....

Last night; I slowly rubbed some of the bore oil on the barrel and used a synthetic pad to remove some surface crud. Fore and aft of the rear sight and on the adjacent octagonal surfaces. Then looked it up and down for marks of any kind. I couldn't find a single mark. Though; underneath the...

    Little Leman marked but ....

No trigger or triggerguard. The story as given to me was the gun was loaded with modern powder. The concussion broke the tang off and the stock at the lock. Several small splintered pieces around the lock of wood are gone. The tang was attached to the rear stock when I got it. Typical idiocy...

    Little Leman marked but ....

54ball and jdkerstetter made some interesting comments about Jamestown NC gunmakers. And this rifle having characteristics of something besides Leman. So I brought it here and will post as many pics as anybody wants to see. Thanks in advance for your informative comments. The lock is marked...

Yes, it is marked on the lock. I'll move this to a new topic ( in the gunbuilders bench)instead of misdirecting the tiger striping conversation. Please follow... and thanks to you all for the info.

    Greetings from NC

Hello to all. I've been a long gun shooter since I was 6 or 7 on the banks of the Ohio River. I moved with family over the mountains to NC way back in the 60's. And have been shooting all that time. But never black powder. I'm finding my shooting interest going backwards further and further as...

    Tiger stripping walnut?

That's a great link, thanks. I've got a bag of old baseball bats I'd use before ever trying to reproduce tiget stripes on a real stock. This is a picture of my little Leman. The finish somewhere between poor and good on various places.

    Sight Qustions

Pictures of an original little Leman ( 36", 1" width barrel) front and back sight. The cuts produce a small ear left and right. Maybe on a frosty plains morning or sunny day the cuts offer something when they refract light off the german silver.

    Tiger stripping walnut?

When they refer to "burning" rope they may be refering to chemical burning as mentioned above. Not actually burning rope. The old Leman I have appears to have been chemically burned. Not painted. Underneath the finish. It looks like you could soak a 3/8" hemp rope in the acid, wrap the stock...

    Sight Qustions

I've got an original Leman with original sights. The front german silver sights are nicked with a sharp blade in two spots. To produce left and right .... ummm... well I don't know what to call what it is. Nicks that widen the view down the sight/barrel by maybe a couple of thousandths. But I...
