guy who was building shop equipment

Thanks for the info -- I was interested in looking at the guy's posts because the ball-vise was only one of a couple of set-ups the guy made (and posted pictures of) BBurg.

    White Lightning in GPR

Thanks for the response Hunter. I am not happy with my vent position and might end up adjusting either the lock or the replaced vent. BBurg

guy who was building shop equipment

A couple of years ago, there was a software engineer who had a number of innovative shop additions, such as an engraving vise made from a bolling ball. I can't remember his user name and I have tried the search function, but can't locate his entries. Anyone remember his user name and his...

    White Lightning in GPR

I was wondering if anyone here had installed a white lighting touch hole into a GPR? It would involve retapping the hole from M6 to 1/4-32. BTW I had my best ingition day ever yesterday. 7 shots in a row with no flashes in the pan. As I was using 2F in the pan, there was some lag.

    Buiilding muzzleloader DVDs

Hello, I just got the "Building Muzzleloaders" DVD by Tirpin. I was wondering how it stacked up with the others. I have the Gunsmith of Greenville and it is great, but it is always good to watch a particular proceedure. Any thoughts, thumbs (up or down) will be well recieved. BBurg

    need help with GPR

I have the adjustable sight. There is play in it, but the I have no trouble with the right-left adjustment, it just consistenly fires low. BTW While I am treating the GPR as mainly as a learner rifle, I am trying to take care of it, but there have been nicks on the barrel from my ramrod and...

    need help with GPR

My GPR is firing consistently low. Should I try to find a gunsmith with BP experience to swap out the front sight, or is that something any competent gunsmith should be able to do? BBurg

    Stuck ball -=- need help

I removed the ball extractor, put the normal tip, and frammed on the rod to reshape the top of the ball. I was then able to use the ball extractor to remove the remaining lump of lead. What have I learned? 1. Put the powder in first. 2. Soaking the barrel in Ballistol makes cleaning a breeze...

    Stuck ball -=- need help

Black Hand, this is what I have been doing. Right now I have a conical shaped hole in the ball formed by the screw. I have tried to drill it in, but my ball puller has a cylindrical disk which is preventing it from going any deeper into the ball. BBurg

    Stuck ball -=- need help

As suggested, I drilled a hole through my ramrod, inserted an allen wrench for purchase and pulled out my lead-incrusted ballpuller. At this point, I am unable to get the ballpuller to get any purchase on the ball. If I try to blow (powder) the ball out, how should I clear out the...

    Stuck ball -=- need help

I was firing yesterday (50 cal lyman GPR) and after 8 rounds, I mistakenly rammed a patch and ball without loading the powder charge. I had been swabing to the level of the seated ball between shots, so I am sure that there was fouling below this point. I put the screw-top ball pulling jag on...

How do you clean flints between shots?

I have been using my finger to wipe both sides of the flint to get rid of powder residue, but is there a better way to clean the flint (besides removing it using a stiff toothbrush). Thanks. BBurg

    Cossack powder measures

...Great Suggestion. I found some 50/70 cases in Dixie that might fill the bill. They also have some .45/3.25-inch cases $45-58 per 20

    Cossack powder measures

The standard cossack jacket had mini pockets along the breast for closed single-shot powder measures. They were usually brass and highly decorated. examples: http://www.russianswords.com/Uniforms.htm I am looking for similar brass tubes, only undecorated.

    Cossack powder measures

I am interested in getting some brass cossack-style powder measures. My google-fu has failed me -- does anyone have a clue where I can get some? I might end up having to have a machine shop make them for me. BBurg

Leather for gripping flint...where to find?

I need to get some leather to grip the flint in my lock. It is hard brittle and loose. Where can I order some? The forum concensus pretty much poo-poos lead.

    Progressive trouble firing

I thought that I read somewhere that a wet patch would get stuck, but based on my problems with dry patches, I will admit that my memory might be wrong. When you run a patch through to clear fouling, what do you moisten it with. I have been using the Lehigh lube. Thanks for the toothpick idea...

    Progressive trouble firing

I went out yesterday and did some firing. In general, the firing went better. I did not run a patch through between shots, but rammed the ball in as usual. After the third shot, I did run a patch after I had loaded the ball and got my rod stuck midway. I used my pliers to remove the rod (no...

    Wood/Steel Core Ramrods

I was having trouble with the ramrod that came with my rifle. The caps kept coming unglued. So, I went to the shop and got 29 inches of 3/8 brass rod with a 10-32 tapped hole. It's not particularly light, not particularly period, but it works.

    Progressive trouble firing

This morning I removed my vent liner. According to Track, it IS 6-0.75 metric. It looks like the interior is two concentril drilled holes, the smaller diameter is on the lock side and the larger diameter is on the barrel side (and the barrel side is offcenter). Chamber's website has a...
