    Inquiring minds want to know.

to inlet or not to inlet ?

2-cents from someone without the experience of the other commenters- the sideplate/lock 'nails' will look better if you look at photos of originals and put a file and abrasive paper to the heads so they aren't glaringly machine made. It's a small detail, but makes a world of difference.

    First gun

This is my first gun which I finished last week. Straight Green Mountain barrel, .50 cal 7/8", 42" long. The gun is based on the work of a Womelsdorf/Reading gunsmith, Andrew Fichthorn. It started out as a parts kit, but I ended up making some of the parts. I made the hunter's star from...

Looking for my First Flintlock, have???

The importance of this advice should not go unnoticed. While building my first gun I was in a hurry for something to shoot and bought a Traditions and a TC. The difference between the locks on those guns and a Chambers lock is vast. Immeasurable. You won't regret a Chambers lock purchase.

    Kibler kit gun complete

There is, I think, a great deal of potential in offering other styles, as there are people who want a good reliable kit flintlock, but don't want to do a regular 'build.' It is no small feat to take on the logistics of that I'm sure, but I see the potential for people to end up with really...

    Red Oak gun stock

Regarding the tannin in oak, once the oak has seasoned there is little reaction with iron/steel and the application of a finish prior to final assembly assures no reaction/stain. When I saw oak logs, red or white, the wood will stain blue just resting on the bunks during a cut. When planing...

    Gun Builder's Bench

Nothing spectacular, built without plans, straight from my head. Only had 5/4 boards (which were cut from a standing dead oak in 2000 when I bought my mill, and have some worm damage) to work with so planed to 4/4 and glued up and reenforced with a few bolts in case my glue-up is sub-par. The...

Might be putting some wood back

We have very similar long term goals. Everyone has an idea of what a forest should look like. Many times the park look is appealing to the eye and a brushy look is not. However, a good healthy forest must have fallen logs, standing dead trees, brushy areas, brambles, areas of new growth, seed...

Might be putting some wood back

I've been managing and logging my woodlots myself for nearly 2 decades. I have spent a great amount of time educating myself so that I make decisions that benefit wildlife and make my woodlots better for my children. I have also spent some time with GangGreen in his woods. I am not in anyway...
