    Brown Bess Accuracy

Was the Bess the preferred musket on the battlefield of it's day? In other words, would an American soldier tend to discard his gun if a bess became available? Was there a preferred infantry weapon?

    Brown Bess Accuracy

    3. At 50 yds, 10. At 100..3. I thought this was supposed to be an innacurate firearm. If 9/10 was possible at 100yds, why the hell are they lining up at 50 yds and just banging away?

    Brown Bess Accuracy

Hi All, Took the Pedersoli Bess out to 100 yds. .015 patch, .715 round ball, 80 gr ffg. At a 2ft square target, from a bench rest, anyone venture a guess on how many shots out of 10 hit paper?

    Pedersoli Brown Bess

Thanks! I'm getting excited about the gun. Would anyone know of any books about the Brown Bess?

    Pedersoli Brown Bess

Hey All, I'm thinking of making this my first flintlock. I'm partial to military replicas for historical reasons. Any opinions on this musket as a first choice would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

    .577 Enfield Minie

I shoot this weapon for the historical 'high' I get. Trying to replicate what it must of felt like to carry the Enfield as a battle rifle. I'm thinking any soldier who had to swab after 4 rounds wouldn't be too pleased. I love the accuracy with the .575 but that's a side benefit. I have some...

    .577 Enfield Minie

I've been using a .575 minie' in the Enfield, the same as I use in the .58 Sringfield. Accuracy is phenomenal but I find I have to swab the bore after 4 shots because things are so tight. Is there a minie' in the .572, .570 range that would be a better fit for the Enfield?

    Continental Army Rifle

CharlesZ is loving the posts. My love of these weapons stems from a love of the history these guns helped shape. When I finally acquire my Revolutionary period firearm, I want to feel what our forefathers felt when they hefted these guns to their shoulders and took aim. Posts are great. Thanks.

    Continental Army Rifle

"Any captured Rifleman was summarily executed without trial." In other words, a rifled barrel was considered barbaric during this period? Unbelievable! I'm basically trying to find out what the 'average' American soldier carried. If he came with his own musket--rifle, what was popular at...

    Continental Army Rifle

What is a Harpers Ferry? If someone 'showed up' ready to fight, was there any standard issue firearm? One would think uniformity of caliber would be something an army would strive for. Was there a generally accepted caliber?

    Continental Army Rifle

I'm looking to buy a flintlock rifle that would be representative of the military rifle used by the Americans during the Revolution. If that is too obscure, the War of 1812 would work. Looking for a rifle, not a musket. Any suggestions?

    Dixon's Gunmakers Fair

Help me out. Anything for the ladies? The wife has to go and she won't sit in the car and she doesn't shoot. Even something close in 'Crafts' would work.

    Carrying Concealed Blackpowder Handguns

Assume you live in NY. A permit is required just to handle a handgun in a store so that's out. But you can buy a BP handgun and take it home. If you buy powder and lead balls, caps, then in order to continue to own the weapon legally you must get a handgun license. Would you? Would you assemble...

    Competition and Replacement Powders

When competing in BP shoots is it specified which powders are okay to use? Let's say at Friendship or in the N-SSA, are all powders allowed?(except smokeless, of course)

    Triple Seven

I shoot minie's almost exclusively. T7 wouldn't adversely effect the skirt, would it? What about lube? Think I'll just proceed the same as with BP. I have no problem with BP but I'll give T7 a try just for the helluvit.

    Triple Seven

Hi, Shooting my 1863 Springfield .58 replica with FFg Goex when a shooter comes up and tells me to try Triple Seven. Never heard of it. Have used pyrodex. He says it replaces blackpowder and cleans up better. Also, doesn't smell. Anyone know anything about Triple Seven? Is it a viable...

    .58 Paper Cartridges

My main problem has been placing a lubed minie into the same tube with the powder. The powder tends to stick to the lube. When you dump the charge your grains are less and when you ram the bullet it's contaminated with powder grains. Should 2 separate tubes be used?

    .58 Paper Cartridges

Hi, Can anyone direct me to a resource that explains how to make a .58 minie ball paper cartridge? I want to replicate as close as possible the actual paper cartridges used in the Civil War. Thanks.

    Pyrodex...will somebody please explain?

I live in New York. Ordered 5 lbs of powder from where I won't mention. Powder, shipping, hazmat, spent about $135. My math tells me approx, $27/lb. I've used pyro and had no problem with it but I wanted to be "real." At these costs, I may be shooting pyro again.
