    My new underhammer

The old numrich barrel I used was also heary. It's 34", 45 cal at 15/16 so there's a lot of metal in the barrel. I used a grade 8, 5/8X18 bolt for the breech plug. It threaded in about 5/8". I cut off the head of the bolt and left about 5/8" for the receiver set screws to grab on to. If you...

    My new underhammer

Yup the forestock on the GM stainless has the ramrod under. The barrel came with an underrib already installed. I was wrong about the discrition of the first pic. The forestock on that one I got from Deer Creek and worked with with a rasp. The forestock on this one is from the old numrich gun.

    My new underhammer

I finally finished the underhammer that I've been working on. The barrel is an old Numrich minuteman flintlock barrel I reworked. It's a .45 Cal 34" barrel with 1-66. I purchased the receiver and buttstock from BlueGrouse. The stock had to be reworked a little, I like a streight stock more the...

Can the LOP be increased ?

Thanks for the many great suggestion and advise. I really like the idea of a brass plate between the butt and the extension. But I think my best bet is purchase a new stock. Hopefully I can find one in maple. Does any one know where I can get a stright stock out of maple for an underhammer...

Can the LOP be increased ?

I've been working on an underhammer for a few months now and have run into another little problem. This is the first time building a gun. So, please be nice. Here's my problem. I'm trying to put on a brass butt plate. I thought I'd save a little time and use a band saw to cut the curve of...

    Help with underhammer spring

I can't believe I did this. I was getting ready to brown my new underhammer receiver. I was taking the hammer and trigger out but before I got a look on how the trigger spring was installed it dropped out. I have the spring but I can't figure out it goes back in. I think I really screwed up...

    Blue Grouse Underhammer Kit

I have recently purchased an underhammer from Blue Grouse(Bruce). Bruce is a very knowledgable guy and is more then willing to answer any question, give you help and great advise on underhammers. The parts you get from him is high quality. The metal parts are finished perfectly and are ready for...

New underhammer receiver and stock arrived

There is no question in my mind that Bruce is a very honest and honerable man. I heard from him yesterday and he explained about the stock and the trigger stop. The receiver he sent me was finished and polished to perfection. A beautiful piece of craftmanship. I can't wait to see my barrel.

New underhammer receiver and stock arrived

I've tried to call Bruce several times about this problem and my question about the screw in the trigger guard. The past two times I left a message but have not received a reply yet. Tried about 15 mins ago both the toll free (877) number and the number on his web site. Now, I don't even get the...

New underhammer receiver and stock arrived

I received the underhammer receiver and stock I ordered from blue grouse blackpowder. But, I think I have a problem. It's will not hold at full cock. It'll stay for a second but if I breath on it the hammer releases, Is there any way I can fix this, short of sending it back and waiting another...

When you say wad, do you mean something similar to an over the powder card like in a muzzleloading shotgun?

    new underhammer and load questions

Being this discussion is about underhammers and loads. I have a question, I've ordered an underhammer from Blue Grouse. I sent Bruce a GM IBS barrel that is 28 in. long with a 1-28 twist. I know that's a pretty fast twist. So I'm assuming it'll shoot conicals better rather then RB. Any...

attaching ram rod pipes directly to barrel

I wanted to thank everyone for your advise. I picked up some low temp. silver bearing solder this afternoon. Got started on this as soon as I got home from work. The wife wasn't happy, because dinner was getting cold. Not the first time. I filed a small flat on the bottom of each...

    Hopkins & Allen .36 rifle

I spoke with Bruce yesterday evening. I think he said he's machining his own receivers but is waiting for triggers and hammers. He's having a hard time getting underhammer barrels from his supplier. So, he's been taking new T/C barrels or Green Mountain IBS barrels, removing the factory breech...

Soldering ramrod pipes to the barrel on an underhammer

At the risk of being redundant. I earlier posted this under builders bench. It probably should have been here. I tried to move it not couldn't. Sorry I'm in the process of building an underhammer rifle using an old numrich 15/16 - 36 inch .45 cal barrel I have. I got a forestock from Deer...
