Powder Charge for EuroArms 1861 Springfield?

Awesome, thanks. I'll stick to Hoppy's #9 for my solvent for now, though the hot soapy water seems to do about the same (or maybe a tad better) from what I've seen, so I may switch over. I'm using the #9 as my patch lube also, which I think helps because it cleans as you ram the ball down. I've...

Powder Charge for EuroArms 1861 Springfield?

The problem is that the patch is too thick, I can't ram it down. If I had a thinner patch I think it'd work better than unpatched. However, I need to get it clean and then actually mic the barrel (which I shoulda done before buying the balls). Then I'll be better able to figure out what's going...

Powder Charge for EuroArms 1861 Springfield?

Shot a good bit yesterday, and the best charge ended up being about 60 grains of Pyrodex with a .570 round ball unpatched. I'd like to find a thinner patch that what I've got, because with my LGP I use a patch soaked in BP solvent so as to clean and load in one sweep. I'm sure someone here will...

Agreed! I teach all my friends when I get a chance, but I suppose I'll understand the need for a class once I've had more experience in the manifold errors of ML shooting.

Powder Charge for EuroArms 1861 Springfield?

nah, if it goes a little high you'll hit someone behind, if it goes short, you'll just hit the dirt. At least that's what I can come up with.

Powder Charge for EuroArms 1861 Springfield?

Awesome, thanks so much guys. I'm going shooting this weekend with it for the first time so I'll start with 45 and go up from there.

Powder Charge for EuroArms 1861 Springfield?

What's the right charge here? I'm reading anywhere between 45 and 70 grains. I bought it used so I got no paperwork. Also, is it safe to shoot patched ball from this thing, or will that create too great a pressure? (aka, is this thing designed for minis, or can I use whichever I want?)

Maybe I'm just a newbie, but what's to teach? I don't intend to disparage your work, I'm honestly curious. It all seems so straightforward to me.

What brands do you recommend for an Enfield?

Thanks for a great deal Chuck, it was a pleasure.

Awesome, thank you. (I hope you don't get in trouble for posting that.)

What brands do you recommend for an Enfield?

And here we go out of my price range. Much as I'd love a Parker Hale, my budget will not currently allow it. Also, I'm leaning towards the Springfield 1861 now because the historical accuracy is better for my unit. About Pedersoli though, would it be worth the extra cost to wait for a used one...

What brands do you recommend for an Enfield?

I'm also willing to go with a 1861 Springfield. how about this one? it seems like a good price, and I hear that Pedersoli is a really good manufacturer. P.S. If this post is a violation of the "no advertising" rules I'm sorry. I'm still a little confused about those rules.

What brands do you recommend for an Enfield?

Looking to buy an Enfield rifle for reenacting, but I don't have a lot of cash available. What brand do you recommend for something reliable and accurate, but won't cost a fortune?

    Davide Pedersoli

there's a shop in Murietta called The Shootist that carries BP and has a very knowledgeable BP guy. I don't know if they carry Pedersoli though. A google search for The Shootist will give you their website.

    hello from sunny SoCal

Hello all, my name is Cody (hi Cody), and I'm just getting into muzzleloading/bp shooting, and I figured this forum would be a great way to get knowledge and info to help me start. I'm from Escondido in San Diego's North County, and I grew up on a 25 acre "ranch" in the low mountains on the...
