    .36 or .40???

Hello gentlemen, (ladies, tip of the hat), I have recently completed my first build of a .54 with straight rifleing and I love it... Pie plate at 75 yds on first day out shooting. It's better than I thought it would be... Turkeys, with shot out of this same barrel, will hopefully fall in April...

    Ram rod straightening

Hello, I am close to completing my build of my cabin creek kit gun. My ram rod had a slight bow in it making hard for finishing fit. Prior to any die or stain applied I ran hot tap water over the center 3 feet of the rod for about 3 mins. It was very flexible at that time. I flexed it so it...

    Case harden lock plate/ lock

I want to make my Chambers lock a "case hardened" look. I saw it and like it but don't know how to achieve it... I have it filed down the "gray" coating that comes on the lock and is now white... Its now fairly polished down in the white. What is my next step?

    Greenhorn preparations to build?

Mbokie, I am in the same place as you. I too have the same DVD set and book! Have read and reread the book and am on the second viewing of the DVD set! What kit/company did you go with? I am using Cabin Creek Muzzloading and Brad Emig. He is wonderful. Jim Chambers folks are great as well...

Thanks for the info. Please let me know when you use it if you feel you get a better pattern. Are you shooting shot or a LB or both like I intend to do.

Just ordered my 28 gauge/.54 cal. Straight Rifled barrel

When the ball leaves the barrel of a smoothbore it will most likely be the same as this barrel, a " nuckleball" . However what is not being able to be controlled is the slight casting imperfections. Each shot could be slightly different due to the uniformity of the ball being different, thus...

Just ordered my 28 gauge/.54 cal. Straight Rifled barrel

I will only be shooting the shot very seldom. Hopefully one shot a day Turkey hunting! The same for deer hunting with a LB. I don't think fowling will be the issue. Past barrels produces by the same company are having good results so just wondering if anyone out there has had hands on...

Just ordered my 28 gauge/.54 cal. Straight Rifled barrel

Yes, from what I can tell, it is like throwing a knuckle ball vs a curve. You have better control maybe 25-50 yds. further than smooth bore while using a LB. Cleaning is a added bonus. Just something a little different that I am excited to try to see if the "old technology" might be practical...

Just ordered my 28 gauge/.54 cal. Straight Rifled barrel

Can't be positive tonight but will try and confirm both questions but I feel sure it will have 6 groves .016 deep round bottom... Colerain barrel company. Good questions that I need to have answered. I originally was not as interested in being so historically correct but after attending the...

Just ordered my 28 gauge/.54 cal. Straight Rifled barrel

I have just put my order in from Brad Emig at Cabin Creek Muzzleloading. After much research, I'm getting a 28 gauge/ .54 caliber, straight rifled, swamped barrel. It will be in his Colonial Virginia Rifle. I am an avid turkey hunter (thus shotgun) and want to deer hunt also and desire to be...
