    Pietta 1851 Navy

Hi folks, My 1851, .36 caliber, Pietta, navy colt , will not penetrate a steel burning barrel at 15 feet ! She puts a serious dent in it , but will not penetrate even one side. I am loading it with a .375 round ball , and using 20 grains of triple seven propellant. I am using a wonder wad over...

    Pietta 1851 Navy cylinder jams

On the Colt Navy , you can deepen the notch on the hammer thumb spur. Do it carefully with a hacksaw blade (fine) , and then use a very small triangle file. Use just the blade and pull it toward you to cut. Anyway , it won`t take much to get her to fire point of aim at 25 yards.

    Pietta 1851 Navy cylinder jams

I had a similar problem with my Pietta 1851 Navy. What I found was that the #10 caps were not seated all the way onto the nipple , thus not letting the hammer rest far enough down , to reset the bolt. I make sure now , that the caps are seated all the way.

    1851 Navy .36 - Load Data???

Using 15 gr of triple 7 , the bullet would not pierce a 55 gallon drum at 30 yards. My .22 Henry rifle goes through both sides at the same distance. just sayin.....

    1851 Navy .36 - Load Data???

Really ? why is that? The cylinders are lubed up on the end after loading. The caps have nothing to do with chain firing. This is not my first BP revolver friend.

    1851 Navy .36 - Load Data???

I bought this .36 navy as a kit. Just finished it yesterday. I shot it today using 15 Gr. triple7 / with .376 round ball. It shot well at a burning barrel @30 yards. Pretty accurate , but not real powerful. Next time I will boost up the powder to 20 grains. I had no problems with the #11 caps ...
