    Patch and Ball

Zonie, While I am not personally offended by the movement of my thread, it does frustrate me for two reasons. One, the continuity of readers and posters is lost. A poster has to search his own posts to find my thread to continue the conversation, and two I have to go to "My Topics" to relocate...

    Patch and Ball

Thanks Turk, Last night I cleaned the barrel with boiling water in the hope to melt years of different lubes that I suspect have been used in this gun. It appeared to have cleaned out a lot of crud. Lets hope that my next shooting session has better results. While I know that fouling can make it...

    Patch and Ball

Thank you all for your help. :off I have a question for the moderators. Why do you keep moving my topics?? This topic was placed in "Percussion rifles" because it pertains to a specific percussion rifle. My title is "Patch and Ball". The body of the text speaks specifically to a CVA rifle and...

    Patch and Ball

Here is what I am using per the packages for each, Speer Bullets .490 round balls and a .15 Muzzleloadeer Original ticking patches with "Precision Lube 2000" Just a reminder that this is a used rifle kit built by someone else, I have spent many hours cleaning the barrel per advise on this forum...

    Patch and Ball

Are you suggesting that it is normal for the gun to need cleaning between each shot?? It seems to me that it would suggest that something is wrong. This month I went to my first Rondy and watched people shoot ten to twelve shots with never swabbing the bore once. Why is mine different??

    Patch and Ball

I just read another thread on this forum on the same subject and the consensus is a .490 and a .15 patch for the start. But this is the combo that is getting stuck in my barrel after three loads????

    Patch and Ball

Thanks Graham, that is interesting because that is exactly what I have been tryng to use, a .490 ball and a .15 lubed patch. Here is the problem, the first set slides down the barrel with out a problem, the second is tough the third is hard and the forth is impossible!! If you follow my other...

    Patch and Ball

Hello all, as most who have chatted with me know I am a total new guy to all of this. I have read many threads about ball size and patch selection and that one must experiment with combos to find what works best for their rifle. My question is where to start for my 50 cal CVA mountain rifle...

    New gun

Alden, I think that the builders of each of my CVA's thought that they had completed their rifles!! Since I have never seen the instructions for the kit I can only assume that the builders did not follow the instructions correctly or they decided that the work to finish the stock was too much or...

    New gun

Does anyone know it there is a replacement stock that is one piece and has all the relief work completed. The wood on this one is in bad condition, a little dry rot and such. I might want to put the hardware on to a new stock. I know that their are lots of blanks out there but I am looking for...

Trying my hand at a TOTW patch knife.

Thanks Killer for the advise, I feel pretty confident that the rivets will hold. The wood is glued on with 30 minute epoxy and the rivets are set with JB weld. I have large hands and left the overall handle thickness at 5/8". It feels quite good to me now, only time will tell with use if it is...

Trying my hand at a TOTW patch knife.

Here it is with all the width and tang shaping complete. All that I have left is the final hand shaping an sanding.
