Brown Bess- Anyone Out there who can provide some insight?

Thank you! It's one of my favorites of all the unusual oddity firearms I have.

Brown Bess- Anyone Out there who can provide some insight?

Interesting! I have another flintlock that is being repaired after USPS cracked the stock...but that one felt heavier than this Barker and I believe the barrel was a little longer. Had more of the traditional Brown Bess distinctions that Dave mentioned like the trigger guard, side plate, barrel...

Brown Bess- Anyone Out there who can provide some insight?

I was being a little facetious about dumping it. Would never dump this cool piece of history. I'm planning on making a nice display case for it soon.

Brown Bess- Anyone Out there who can provide some insight?

Dave, thanks so much for the valuable info. Glad to know the distinguishing features that make a Brown Bess what it is. I would assume the LI 59 on the butt could be an indication as to the volunteer or militia unit this musket was assigned to??? Are Brown Bess barrels heavier than the...

Brown Bess- Anyone Out there who can provide some insight?

Sounds like it's best to toss it in the dumpster then. Okay, I'll haul it out to the curb when I get back from work.

Brown Bess- Anyone Out there who can provide some insight?

Bore size is .75 cal and the barrel length is approximately 38". Ramrod is steel and I'm not sure what a provision for a ramrod looks like but the end of the barrel is smooth aside from the front site. Thanks for the help! -Brian

Brown Bess- Anyone Out there who can provide some insight?

Hi Dave, I attached a picture to help! The barrel length is approximately 38" and the bore size is .75 cal ball. I was told it was a private contract musket but not sure if Barker ever produced those. Pardon my ignorance (I'm new to the world of muzzleloaders) but what specifically makes a Brown...

Brown Bess- Anyone Out there who can provide some insight?

Hi Everyone, I have a Flintlock Musket that I'm trying to discover more info about though what I've found is scarce. It has the name BARKER on the lock plate and LI 59 on the brass butt plate. I'm wondering if this musket could be the work of Matthias Barker??? All I could find was his name but...

German Flintlock Pistol INFO help Please!!

What gives it away that it's not a reproduction? I know they can create artificial aging and patina on some firearms to make them more antique looking. Genuinely curious because a reproduction value is a few hundred at most....and a genuine original is often much more😅. Thank you for replying!

German Flintlock Pistol INFO help Please!!

Hello again everybody, I came across and interesting flintlock pistol. It's a German pistol with "Wirtzburg" written on the top part of the barrel. It has a 10" barrel and a letter and several numbers stamped on the butt behind the lock mortise. Does anyone know if it was common to have a...

    Percussion to Flintlock Conversion

Hello Everyone, I'm new to the forum and also new to the world of muzzle loaders. I recently acquired an old percussion rifle that needs a little TLC and restoration. I was wondering if it's possible to convert from percussion to flintlock? Could I use the current lock plate that is on the...
