    Economical flintlock

no it does not have those barrels to switch out, mine has 1:32 stamped on the barrel and shoots well with both, better wth conicals though. Had a friend have a .40 cal barrel made for his deer stalker and loves it! "Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it."

    Economical flintlock

 I have both a cap and a flinter that I have had for over 10 years and have used the percussion for a lot of hide hitting the ground...got a couple new "custom" flinters so I never hunted with the flint....gave it to my son, and he still shoots it and loves it! If you want to call it...

    Enlarging Flashhole

shot it again today....made a 6 in. X and shot away at 50 yds. Gun shoots so much better now after opening it up....can hit a pie plate off-hand at 50 yds. now every time! hope to improve that to 75 very soon.....

    Enlarging Flashhole

group size suffered when I tried 3F, 90 grains of 2F goex cut holes within holes at 75 yards, so since it is a huntin' gun.....think I'll call it good!!

    Enlarging Flashhole

I did not shoot between enlarging and cone....did both then shot and received the results with both improvments, not on at a time......next time I will do that!

    Enlarging Flashhole

i did find it fired faster and more consistant than before I enlarged and coned it. But like I said before it is not much larger and not a deep cone, but it seems like it fires every time now(if I keep my flint sharp) as before it would fail to fire 1 in every 12-15 shots. It will be mainly...

    Enlarging Flashhole

not sure what was ment by dangerous....I did not enlarge it to a #2 pencil.....just opened it up a couple hundredths and slightly coned it for improved ignition, not sure the danger in that. As far as keeping it clean, I run a vent pick after I shoot and after I load it so keeping the channel...

    Enlarging Flashhole

I drilled out my standard White Lightning flash hole insert to the point that 2F will not fall out but you sure can see it now! I then coned around the hole with a drill bit two sizes larger.....anybody else cone thier flash hole and do you think it makes a difference?

IF you could only hunt one animal...

after killing many a cow, (and far less) bulls with a smoke pole....have to be elk. The country they live in...can't be beat!

    Soft VS. Slightly Hardened Balls?

Strictly for hunting......If, and I say if, a person can get a decent pattern with a "Slightly" hardened round ball, what is an advantage of it over a pure soft lead ball on game, or is there one? Which do you think is best and why? :hmm:

Who's had a buck hide up close?

Year before last I was winded by a group of deer, one was a 177inch mulie, and they all ran BUT....the big buck ran a hundred yards and laid down just at the edge, before he left the cover of the aspens. I circled downwind 1/2 mile and came in the back door....when he saw me I was 35 yards...

    2F or 3F for .54 hunting loads

Both of you are right....just trying to save a little time, and cause a little conversation. I also use 3F Goex in just about every thing but I do have both......so I guess off to the bench I go for some "quality time"!

    2F or 3F for .54 hunting loads

 just finished a full stocked .54 (1:66) flinter Hawken....going to be my full time deer/elk killer. Question is....should I just try both 2F and 3F for developing roundball loads.....or do you think one has an advantage over the other?? Right now I shoot a cap gun w/ 80gns. 3F and...

Howdy from the mountains of N.E. Calif.

Howdy folks....been looking for just a good muzzleloading forum for a while. Most folks want to shoot 1000 yards these days, not 50 to 100 yards at animals......sad, hunting is gone and only shooting remains. My family and I enjoy the Rondy's too, but with both parents with cancer the last two...
