    Revolver chain fires

This is an argument and topic that will never end. I started with BP revolvers 20 years ago and used grease over ball method but was just too messy. Figuring a ring of lead shaved off sealed it from that end so I stopped using it. Now I use a 7/16 hollow punch on cork sheets. Never had a...

    Musket caps . . .

The CCI caps they are making now are weak. I had to get another nipple to use #11 caps. The improved Minie makes a .578 the bore should be .577 I used a .575 mold with very good results. The Lee REAL is flat based isn't it?

    Colt’s Dragoons!?

Go for it. If you're still gonna have a roof over your head and food on the table there's no reason not to.

    Bought another cap'n' ball

There is a marker in the park about it, but I never heard of anything else. It's not far to the Canadian border by today's standards but must have been some ride with a posse on their heels. Montreal was a hotbed for Confederate spies. John Wilkes Booth was there and Jefferson Davis to name a...

    Bought another cap'n' ball

Thank you. A bit strange without the shields but different for sure.

    Bought another cap'n' ball

The very same yes. They escaped to Montreal where they were allowed to stay free and keep the loot. It very nearly caused a war with Britain. The money but not the Confederates was returned.

    EXPLODING BARRELS

Now that's clean. I take very good care of my zouave but no matter how well it's cleaned I always get fairly dirty patches.

    Bought another cap'n' ball

Just bought another revolver. I've had 2 Pietta Remingtons and an 1851 Navy over the years and figured I'm done with these. Guess the bug was too strong, they're the only handgun that's really fun for me so I bought a J.H Dance and Brothers. May look a bit weird without any recoil shields but to...

First Shots from Original French 1777

I think the reverse. Bench rest with high recoil just plain hurts.

    Pyrodex Vs. Traditional Black

I've been using Pyrodex P and RS for more than 20 years in .44 revolvers up to .58 muskets and never had a problem with ignition until CCI stopped making decent musket caps. Still use RS in the rifle musket but add 10-15 gr. of Goex 1st with 45 gr. of RS with a No.11 cap. Even the CCI...

    Realistic accuracy expectations

Pretty much the same for us all as we age. Perfect eyesight slowly goes. Yet I'm sure you still enjoy shooting as much as the next guy. I don't expect my shots to go where they did 20 + years ago but when they do I'm happier than I was back then.

Percussion caps and other supplies during the last shortage?

Before 911 things were different. I joined a club in Vermont, when I told the U.S. custom guy where I was going he asked what I had in the car. when I told him a BP rifle I was waved through.

Percussion caps and other supplies during the last shortage?

It's illegal for us to bring just about anything gun related. Maybe some minor things but anything that makes a gun go boom is illegal. Canada will let us bring up to 5,000 rds of ammo and a couple lbs of powder if one is stupid enough to try it. I wouldn't want to be a quest in a U.S. prison.

Percussion caps and other supplies during the last shortage?

Try gun shows. Usually you can find caps there. I found a bunch of old Navy caps and 1 tin of unusual size of 200 caps that were over 100 years old. Those worked better than any others I've bought over the many years. I know Canada sucks as far as supplies.

    Aspiring marksman.

If you have hard deposits or rust in the bore, or for storage the best I've found is Fluid Film. Not petro based but made from lamb oils. Used by the U.S. Navy, NASA, the list goes on and on. Just google it, also mentions BP firearms. $16 plus tax here, for sure cheaper in the States.

Blow out hole on percussion guns

I always cock the hammer back to leave the nipple as a vent when reloading, otherwise it seems harder to make sure the ball is seated properly. Some say it's dangerous as embers may be present. Don't know about that but having a ball not seated properly is more so I would think.

    Patched iron balls?

In the past I have used RB made of wheel weights. No problems at all, they were of course patched as usual. As for hunting there probably would be a question of expansion.
