    Repro 1863 Remington "Zouave" problem.

So went to the range today to try out new sight picture. Got 3 shots off then downhill from there. Cocking the hammer back then squeezing the trigger the hammer stops short of the nipple. The lock is working as it should outside the rifle but not inside. I had the same sort of trouble in the...

    Pedersoli Enfield

The one I had also shot very well with Lee .575 Minies and RB. The twist should be 1-78 .575 is too small for my Zouave so I use the Lee .578 which works nicely.

    Thoughts on SPAM "meat"

I actually like Spam, Don't buy it often but it does taste pretty good for me anyways. I've heard it's quite popular in Hawaii.

    Dovetail sight installation

I put a Lyman front globe sight on my Zouave rifle with JB WELD. Looks alright and is very strong seems straight to me. I have an adjustable vernier tang sight on back so that should compensate if it isn't perfect. I hope, been to cold to try it.

No. 11 Caps for Reproduction Musket(s)?

Can you guys in the States still find the older CCI caps, not the re-enactor ones that are less powerful and won't set off Pyrodex. I can buy Goex here but it's pretty expensive.

    ASM 1851 Navy revolver

Although chambers may vary in size slightly, be it a .36 or .44 a .451 ball would most likely be too small. It is my belief and many others that putting grease over the ball does nothing to prevent a chainfire. If a pure lead ball leaves a lead ring behind, no sparks will go through. Most of the...

    Sight replacment

I had aWilliams rear on another I had, they are good sights. If I remove the apature from the tang sight it could be used as a ghost ring. No idea what a dovetail will cost.

    Sight replacment

Yes I would do the same on that stock. I had screwed a plate on the stock then drilled and tapped for the sight screws. It wasn't quite centre though so I removed the plate, patched the holes and just used wood screws on the sights. Much easier and with plastic wood filler in the holes, then...

    Sight replacment

Thank you Cowboy. I cast the Lee Improved Minie which is .578 as the original minie is too small at .575 Also shoot a .575 RB with the thinnest patch. Am using 15gr of Goex and 45gr of Pyrodex on top for ignition. BP is hard to find here and expensive but not Pyrodex. Also if I use the new CCI...

    Sight replacment

Last March I picked up an Armi Jager 1863 Remington repro. Made in 1975 I doubt it was fired at all or very little. Someone had put red loctite on the nipple so that was fun. The original sights were not meant for my old eyes so I removed them, had to grind them off, God knows what they used...

    Armi Jager Remington repro

Yes indeed I said "Zouave", much easier. Anyway bought the Lee mold for the Improved Minie which is .578 to the traditional at .575 and things are good. Only got off 5 shots at the sand pits today but it hit what I aimed for. I'll get to the club this week put 'er to the test. Thanks to all who...

    Armi Jager Remington repro

I did not slug the bore. I don't have any of that material, forgot the name, that shrinks. I've slugged the bore of my .303 but could push it out. You are right about different bore diameters and they should be checked.

    Armi Jager Remington repro

It's ok, you can say Zouave LOL. Yes the rifling is very shallow for rifles and muskets meant for the Minie ball. The Enfield was the same. It shot RB well but not as good. Maybe I'll go with the .578 minie. If that doesn't work I'll try RB and have a collection of molds. Thank you.

    Armi Jager Remington repro

Thanks. I never thought of a loose ball doing damage but it does make sense.

    Armi Jager Remington repro

Been a long time. Anyhow I could use some advice. Picked up an Armi Jager Remington contract rifle, hate using the term "Zouave", 1975 date code and really nice shape. Using a .575 Minie from a Lee mold. Balls go all over the place. I'm thinking that a .578 ball might work, or a .575 patched RB...

    Pedersoli Enfield

Thanks. I'll have to look up that mold, never heard of it and I'll check into the bedding issue.

    Pedersoli Enfield

I just bought the fairly new Pedersoli 3 band Enfield. It's a beautiful rifle but haven't shot it yet as I'm up to my armpits in snow. It's .577 Cal. and I made some .575 minie balls from a lee mold. The twist is 1-78 so may get a RB mold also. My question is has anyone tried the rifle yet...
