Seasoning your barrel?

Good point. I do have the right kind but I did get it unknowingly. Sorry if posted in the wrong AO...just naturally come to the flint section as everyone knows flinters have higher IQ's.

    Seasoning your barrel?

Good points. Mom told me to brush twice a day and I'll keep at it...she didn't say nothiin about seasoning though.

    Seasoning your barrel?

I use one but sparingly...can't see how it'd get stuck if you get one the proper size...and...use it after you've done some bore wiping. I just make a few runs to loosen up any hard fowling. They also make a great mustache comb....proper presentation being what it is.

    Seasoning your barrel?

Thanks, the posting I read made no ref to an iron barrel which might of made some sense. I was looking for some chicken bones to ward this off when I read your post. Whew.

    Seasoning your barrel?

This is my first BP forum/internet deal so I look around, read this/that. So, I've read some posts about not using a bore brush because you can ruin the barrel seasoning like you would in a cast Iron skillet. So who buys this. You are cooking eggs in your barrel? Seasoning a steel barrel? I'm...

    Rocks are addictive

I had lost my shooting bug until I got this flint...totally rejuvenated now. The process is just absorbing....so is the historical connection.

Killed many men have you? Not true at all...SLA Marshall and another good read "On Killing' have annotated the innate natural aversion to killing one's own species. This can be observed in man and beast. The avg. shooter to kill ratio prior to modern quick kill silhouette training instituted...

    Myth of the Unreliable Flintlock

TooMuch...what do you mean by 'ill fitting balls'? To small, too large what? I've never had a BP rifle (never had a smoothie) that didn't get hard to load after a few shots.

Totally applicable as studies have shown that training soldiers to 'shoot a mark' or shoot round targets did not train them to kill opponents on the battlefield...less that 10% actually shot to kill. This includes 1865 and prior. Many of the 'missed shots' pointed out in the numerous stories...

We were discussing military training. Besides, I tried using a golf club once and it was to damned messy.

The more you shoot the better but have never been a kd fan unless for long gun shooting and experienced/trained shooter. It always comes down to money/time tho. Firm believer you should never shoot a target that does not look like a man/silhouette...imprinting. I was the Group CSM of the Special...

The Marine Corps has excellent marksmanship programs. The 300 meter Army range is simply a cmbt. tng experience. The 300 meter range is a pop up tgt range. The 75 meter are head shoulder, the 150 and beyond are 3/4 silhouettes about 3 1/2 ft. high. You just watch an area (hilly and with...

2nd range day and a question for you

Well, I think I have her figured out...went to an oiled patch and that loads easy enough, I'll keep experimenting but she's shooting good...here is at 50 yards benched unsupported....I think I need to put something dark on the silver front site blade back. [/img]

I get your drift and think it's pretty common sensical. You're up pretty late. We train basic riflemen, today, to shoot with iron sights to 300 meters (avg. small arms engagement range). They do pretty good on a range. Does that mean in combat they'll be as effective...no. OTOH, there are...

Firing at a 'mark' in a peaceful environment is quite a bit different than firing in combat whilst being fired upon. Attempting to gauge a weapons capability is very hard to address under those conditions. It's a tad more than 'buck fever' I'd say. Same examples with modern arms and troops.

I put a target at 50 meters and a target directly behind it at 100 meters. The near target had the bull chest high and the later waist high. If properly lined up you will know at what load your ball will drop within that distance with no allowance for aim. That's as far as our little range has...

depends on the shooter and weapon. With a modern weapon I've hit a 1/2 silhouette at 800 meters iron sights. 40 out of 40 with pop ups out to 300 meters iron sights. Hitting a mark on a board at 150 wouldn't be an issue if you have decent vision.

Neat story line....post it in the smoothbore section in their accuracy post lol.

    Single vs Double Triggers?

I've shot them both on BP and like them both. For target shooting you can't beat doubles. For live targets I prefer a single trigger. I've a single t on my flinter and it prints fine. BTW..."Strength and Honor" is the unofficial motto of 5th Special Forces Group that has been known as 'The...
