    Ye Olde Speed Loader

By itself it’ll darken wood a bit. But in concert with 0000 steel wool you end up with a pretty decent shine. Also, it happened to be what I had readily at hand.

    Ye Olde Speed Loader

I stumbled on a little bit of scrap wood and decided to make a loading block. The finish is neatsfoot oil, applied heavily, lightly torched, rubbed with 0000 steel wool, repeat. .490 Hornady lead ball, .015 onasberg patch.

Do i need a custom flintlock rifle??

Two schools of thought. 1) drop a couple grand on a hobby you don’t know if you’ll like or 2) start with a less expensive gun and risk less. You’ll heard vocal advocates of each. Personally, I’m dropping $450 on a kit. When I asked the same question one guy, **** you not, said flat out if you...

That’s a damn nice looking rife, and some equally fine shooting. Congratulations on both!

Question about Loyalist Arms and Repairs

You left out “junk”. That word gets thrown around. Oh, and telling you not to bother with the hobby at all unless you spend $1500-$2000 or more for fill in the blank preferred manufacturer/kit maker.

    Recommendations for .40 RB..

I’m gonna openly display my ignorance, but wouldn’t a dead on .40 ball leave no room for a patch? Or would it just be really, really tight and hard to start and get seated?

    Double barrel Brown Bess?

I’m far from an expert, but it kinda screams “death trap” to me. But again, not an expert.

Red’s Incredible Traditions Kentucky Build: Probably not what you would have done…

I sure as hell hope her artist is better at tatting than I am at carving.

Wifey is getting a tattoo next week, so her fun budget has dibs. I’ll be ordering my kit shortly thereafter. I’m pretty stoked.

Shipping and ease of manufacture. Dimensional lumber isn’t cheap these days. Making it two pieces an making you do the fit and finish is cheaper.

Do you display your flintlock or other guns in your home

It sounds like we agree in principle, just not in execution.

Do you display your flintlock or other guns in your home

Hang on. Do you honestly think it’s some sort of insult that I’d rather lock up my guns than have a little kid get ahold of it? Because that’s not really much of an insult. I’ll choose “safely locked up” over “avoidable tragedy” any day. And seriously, is literally EVERYTHING a gender issue...

Red… that came out pretty darn nice. Make smoke and have some fun! And thank you so much for sharing your build. Say hi to Raul for us!

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Carved a hard maple plug for the shot bag I sewed yesterday.

To each the own dude. I prefer to err on the side of safety.

Man that looks good. I’m chomping at the bit to get mine.

Do you display your flintlock or other guns in your home

Honestly, I haven’t decided on whether to display it or not. On one hand, I hope it’ll be pretty when I’m done. On the other hand it’s a gun… unloaded or not I’m not really comfortable about it not being under lock and key.
