Hi LeatherMoose, I am going to ask the big question...What ply of linen thread should a guy use on leather work for a possibles bag and where is a good place to order or buy it from? Thank you

    camp shower

You could always paint the PVC a wooden color after roughing it up...then the white PVC wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb...just an idea

    Artificial sinew and possibles bag?

Should work great! Artifical sinew is very strong most of it can support 70 lbs of hanging weight. I would be careful not to pull real hard on the stitching because the sinew can cut the leather making it weaker...just make your stitches 'snug' Good luck!

    Bench rest sighting in

Just make sure your sand bag isn't toughing the barrel (or anything for that fact) and is somewhere on the wooden forend of the firearm. Good luck!

    What kind of lube?

Hi there, No the mink oil I use isn't the stuff you would use for a boot oil. I would say the mink oil from the Track is thicker then shoe oil but it isn't the same stuff. I don't think I would use shoe oil in a firearm. All I think it is, is mink oil mixed with beeswax. You could make a...

    What kind of lube?

I use Mink oil from Track of the Wolf...I can shoot all day without cleaning and get good accuracy! It keeps the fouling really soft...

    Good point!

    Powder Crunching

I totally agree...and you brought up a good point about 'all in one motion'...I find if I don't push the ball down the bore in one even slow motion as you described then my accuracy suffers.

    Huntin' with the 40

WELL...I was thinking your way when I first started this thread and now I am not so sure. I know for a fact that any hunting with a round ball or moderate caliber rifle takes good shot placement to be fair to the game. I concider myself to be a good and careful hunter...if I can't get a good...

    Powder Crunching

Personally I never got very good accuracy at 100 yards "bouncing" the rod on the ball...I really couldn't tell a difference at 50 yards or closer. I wonder if bouncing the rod on the ball deformes the ball thus giving inconsistent results?

    Huntin' with the 40

Well I don't think I will be going with the 40 for deer hunting reasons. Well...what about a 28 guage/54 caliber fowler? I see Jim Chambers has one, and I really like the looks of his Pennsylvannia fowler. Plus the 46" octogon to round barrel is very interesting! How far can you shoot a...

    Powder Crunching

Once I feel the ball seat on the powder I give it one more small or light 'even' push...then shoot. I think everyones "even" push would be different the secret is that it is consistent. I feel it makes my loads more consistent then tapping or crunching the ball down. I also saw about an...

    Huntin' with the 40

Ya I thought about that but I decided not to go larger then a 50 because of economy reasons.

    Huntin' with the 40

Thank you all for your comments by the way...you are all helping me with this difficult decision. I have thought about the 45 but it is just too close to the 50...maybe I am being too picky...but then again it is a BIG DEAL for me. The 40 caliber must have been developed as a target caliber...

    Huntin' with the 40

Actually I did build a GPR in 50 caliber about four years ago...that is what is bothering me about building another 50 caliber. Have any other ideas or suggestions on caliber to build?
