What can you tell about a Austin & Halleck Flintlock?

I had a Austin & Halleck flint it was a very good hunting rifle. I sold it to a friend when I got a custom .54. I took 6 or 7 deer with the rifle and he still hunts with the one I sold him. Good luck with the rifle.

Damp, FITP, dry ball - what a great day!

Well I guess its like when I was in primary flight school. The instructor told us that there were two types of pilots those who had landed gear up and those who will. I have dry balled a rifle a few times, had buddy dry ball on a reload during a Canadian bear hunt a few years back. Luckily he...

    Early Virgina styling questions?

I also have the TVM Early Virginia rifle. Mine is iron with a half round barrel, I know it is not HC but it is my hunting rifle and if feels good and shoots better than it feels. Make your self happy and enjoy the rifle. I have a really nice HC rifle that I do not hunt with, to nice to mess up...

FF or FFF in .54 Caliber?

I use fffg in my .54s, in my experiments my velocity appears faster with it as apposed to ffg. Nothing set in stone just how it shoots, my point of impact is one inch higher at 75 yards.

    TVM Southern Steel

I called them in November and ask them about a swamped barrel on a Tennessee rifle and I was told any rifle could be swamped for $200.00. I have a Early Virginia by TVM and I am happy with it.

    First time shooting issue

Shooting a flint in the rain is always a tricky item. At the range I would keep the pan covered until ready to shoot. When hunting I keep my lock under my coat.

Looking for feedback on the styling of my longrifle

I agree with the others I would call it a Southern Mountain Rifle, I have handled several originals that were of mixed recycled parts. I would think it is of the correct time line.

    CVA Mountain Rifle Patchbox

I have a .50 CVA Mountain Rifle that I was given for Christmas in 72 or 73 (?) The barrel is marked "Made in USA" it has a cap box. Not a bad rifle and before I listened to people who "knew" more than I did I killed a fair number of deer with it. I may have to take it out next week.
