Longest distance whitetail taken with .40cal PRB ?

I have no expiriences with harvesting whitetails with a cal. 40 PRb because we have no whitetails here. But I think a .40 PRB will be adequat to harvest a roedeer up to 50m, even a weak redstag. Shootplacement is the most necessary thing. The bavarian poachers of the 18th and 19th century...

Hi Rob, good shooting! What kind of flinter is it? I'll do some shooting with my 2 cappers (.45 Deeerhunter, .50 Hawken Woodsman) tomorrow. Regards Kirrmeister

Would You Consider Hornady Great Plains Bullets Traditional?

I'm using wads regulary with any bullet, either PRB or conical. And I have to say that it works real good and accurate. Regards Kirrmeister

Would You Consider Hornady Great Plains Bullets Traditional?

Here over the pond we use PRB from .45 to .54 for all kind of deersized game, esp. roedeer. but for bigger or heavier game like boars we use the killing power of a Hornady Great Plains bullet. Regards Kirrmeister

My First Hawkins .50cal gun kit

Fine work you did on that rifle! Looks like a Traditions Hawken with 1 in 48" ROT. So you can use both PRB and conicals. With PRB I recommend a .490 RB and .010" lubed patch, 70-80 grs Goex or Schützen FFg. The kick is not so heavy with PRB than with conicals. Have fun! Regards...

    Squirrel Gun

If you can find a used CVA sqirrel, take it. Otherwise I would recommend a Traditions small game hunter in .32. Regards Kirrmeister

Traditions? I need help to identify..Please.

Hello from Germany! Congrats. It is a Ardesa Hawken rifle. Normally they were in .45 and have a 1 in 32" ROT, so that you can shoot both PRB and conicals. It is also very usable for hunting with conicals. Ardesa has another model which looks similar the Hawken Creedmore, but it as a peep sight...

    Conicals and slow twist rates?

Hello from Germany! I asked the same question a while ago because I wanted to shoot maxiballs out of my .45er Deerhunter with 1 in 66" ROT. Meanwhile I tested around with 240 grs Maxis (.452 Dia) and 90 grs Wano PP. These combi makes good grouping. It is essential that the Maxi is not much...

Please help me identify my new gun

Hello from Germany! To me it looks like a Traditions/Ardesa Hawken. The .45 barrel is normally a 1in 66" ROT, so a good RB shooter. Clean it and refinish the stock, polish the brass and you will have a fine shooting rifle for target practice and deer-sized game! Regards Kirrmeister

    GPR 1 in 32 or 1 in 60

As it is our goal to shoot traditional I will recommend the GPR with 1 in 60" ROT. The .54 PRB has enough power to bring down any game moving around in the USA. You can go up to charges of 130 grs bp and shoot them with good accuracy out to 150 yds. Regards Kirrmeister

    Finally: new deerhunter made meat!

Hello from Germany! Thanks for the congrats! I posted the strory in the german WO-forum also. And there some guys made really stupid comments about ML use for hunting like "no hunting rifles, bp and ML that is like middleage, why do you ignore the progress in guns and optics, blablabla...."...

    Finally: new deerhunter made meat!

The fawn weight 12 kg field dressed, does normally 15-17 kg field dressed. These roedeer are much smaller as your whitetails. Regards Kirrmeister

    Finally: new deerhunter made meat!

Hi RC, no chanmce to shoot the doe. She was clever enough to send the fawn first and hold herself standing around between the firtrees. Don't mind about the bigness. Meanwhile the fawns, which were already born in may have weights only 2-3 kg less the does. Regards Kirrmeister

    Traditions

Ardesa has a trade daughter in the USA, it is Traditions. Nearly all guns are produced in Spain, like the woodsman Hawken, Deerhunter, Shenandoah rifle, KY pistol and rifle. Unfortunately they make for the US market other models than for the german and european market, especially bigger cal...

In Germany all max. charges for ML and smokeless are ruled by law and proofed by the authorities. For ML we have max. pressure of 1400 bar/20.000 PSI. Regards Kirrmeister
