Single shot pistols in Texas 1836 ?

Don't use that piece of wasted film as a guide for anything historical. About all Hollywood got right that time was Houston was on one side and Santa Anna was on the other!

Single shot pistols in Texas 1836 ?

http://www.cah.utexas.edu/db/dmr/image_lg/di_00819.jpg Stephen F. Austin's pair. From what I've seen in museums that can be traced to early Texas residents, the mix seems about 50/50 of older U.S. military pistols and general Kentucky or eastern made pistols. At San Jacinto...

    Mowrey kits

Looks like the Hawk with figured maple butt stock and fore end and thick butt plate. That butt design was worked out to bring the center of balance farther back. Trail Guns Armory had 100 special Texas carbines made very early. Mine was stolen but they were .58 caliber woods hunting designs...

    New gun!

Whatever floats your boat. I had a Nehemiah hanging higher up the family tree! And guess what happened in central Texas? God does this about every 15 years so we don't forget what it looks like! :haha...

    Starting a collection: "Kentucky" style

Briefly, stay with a known brand. $600 isn't close to the top end if you add custom made pistols from one the good makers. The old CVA pistols are usable, even though from Spain. Pedersoli is probably your best commercial choice. They have a number of options in walnut and traditional maple...

    Groundhog Rifle?

Pedersoli's Frontier/Blueridge series is a full stock available in .36. Also keep an eye on the gun auction sites that have a muzzle loading section, bargains often show up. Keep in mind a .36 uses a .350" ball, generally. Took some figuring out many years ago with my first H&A Minuteman...

    "Freeman" militia musket

Not totally sure. First thought was it was the forward part of the trigger plate but did LLP use a true trigger plate?

    NorthStar West Closed for good?

have to totally agree. Our state sponsored shoot puts muzzleloaders in their hands of hundreds of kids every year. Few are not amazed and fascinated. We do our part to encourage that fascination. Also agree that when they go home that experience isn't usually fed or encouraged.

    Under hammer flintlock

You're going to have to find a way to post pics of your pistol...I'm still smiling at Col. Batguano's posted pics of the under flint he wants to duplicate. I know from experience that a well tuned flint will operate just fine inverted and these designs are wonderfully inventive! :thumbsup...
