    Let's Talk Tuning

Unless you have experience or a very strong mechanical aptitude, I would suggest doing nothing. Your best bet is to just purchase a lock that works correctly from the start. Would you be okay with buying a new car and then have to fix it up for it to work?

    Nope!

    Kibler Colonial patch box fitting?

Install the patch box lid fully. That is, it must be fully seated against the end of the stock mortise. You’ll need to file out the buttplate to match the cut-out in the stock. Next clamp the lid in place and file or sand flush with the buttplate. Now install your spring. Adjust the catch in...

    Those look really nice!

    Kibler percussion conversion ?

Bolts are typically not a great thread fit. I would not use a bolt, but buy a split die and thread a rod to a good fit.

    Kibler percussion conversion ?

I'm not against percussion. The next kit offering will be a percussion Hawken styled rifle.

    Kibler percussion conversion ?

So, we don't have any current plans to make a percussion option. All I can say is that it might happen someday, but that someday is probably a LONG ways away.

    Woodsrunner CNC Incised Carving

Another one that looks GREAT to me. In order to help understand, maybe you could share some hand incised carved examples (original or contemporary) you like.

Maybe it's how it was finished? I think they look great and add a great deal to the design. And yes, incised carving is very traditional.

    Woodsrunner CNC Incised Carving

Okay then... Here is your comment: "It looks like machine carving. If that’s ok with you, go for it" So, isn't it reasonable to take the next step and conclude that if it "looks like machine carving" this implies that it doesn't look like hand carving? Am I understanding this correctly? If...

    Woodsrunner CNC Incised Carving

Really, it's okay if this carving doesn't fit your taste. It would be nice if those critical of the way it's executed in terms of design style etc are knowledgeable about original work. The reason is this.... By stating it's machine cut or doesn't look right because it's cut with a machine is...

Why the flare on swamped barrels?

I agree about speculation. As to swamp of modern guns being greater than most originals, I would agree, but people aren’t generally building guns representative of “most originals”. There are some early rifles that exhibit significant taper and flare. These earlier rifles are oftentimes the...

Another point of view... Sure you might like the relief hand carved version better, but how many can really pull this carving off? To be honest, I've seen a lot of well meaning carving attempts that fell a little short. I applaud those for trying, but what I'm saying is that it's not an easy...

    Woodsrunner CNC Incised Carving

So, here are some photos of one I finished. A better comparison between the relief carved version. In looking at this incised carving again, I can confidently say it is not only very similar to how I would incise carve it by hand but also that it falls within the scope of original incised...

    Woodsrunner CNC Incised Carving

This reminds me of a story from Wallace Gusler. He made a beautiful relief carved rifle that went to some state park. Turns out the fellow in charge of the park felt that carving wasn't appropriate on a rifle like this and proceeded to rasp it all off....

    Woodsrunner CNC Incised Carving

You guys should do better to educate yourself. Study original work. When comparing the carving you are comparing apples and oranges. Relief carving is a complete different animal from incised carving. You don't of course have to like this or our kits in general, but I do appreciate well...

    Yes, the plug is installed.

    Kibler Fowler available.

I’m sure these export grade fowling guns were used with shot, ball and everything in between here in the 18th century, but they are not the best with ball and not developed for it. These developed in France and England where most of the shooting culture revolved around shot.
