I’m in the process of fitting up a patch box to a Kibler Colonial and I’m not quite finding the love of how it’s supposed to fit. It looks like I need to create a channel in the buttplate. It also looks like I need to move the catch up a little bit … a little help with pictures ( I’m a visual thinker) would go a long way!

I had the same problem. I contacted Kibler and sent photos. I was told that they are making the cover a little longer so you can fit it better. I slid it in and marked a line on the underside at fully closed and filed/sanded down to it.

What I ended up doing is recontouring the patch box slider very carefully over the course of an hour so the catch gently lifts over gate and softly clicks into place. I wish I would have scribed a mark like you did.. I would have saved a great deal of anguish!

Install the patch box lid fully. That is, it must be fully seated against the end of the stock mortise. You’ll need to file out the buttplate to match the cut-out in the stock. Next clamp the lid in place and file or sand flush with the buttplate. Now install your spring. Adjust the catch in your spring such that it latches on the buttplate edge if necessary.
