    Kibler Fowler available.

The only difference I see in terms of pressure is how tight the load is and the tendency for heavy charges with a ball in order to attempt to get decent ballistics. Sure you can shoot a ball out of a fowling piece, but it’s really not what these were developed and designed for. Fowling guns...

    Woodsrunner CNC Incised Carving

Well I’ve learned there is no accounting for taste. I would argue it looks very much like high quality incised work. Have you studied original work much?

A bit more ranting…. Use a rifle for ball and the fowling piece for shot. A very important feature of original fowling guns is a thin walled barrel. The O.D. Of both the 20 and 16 gauge are the same. Choose 16 gauge to have a proper thin walled barrel.

What Kibler would be appropriate for French and Indian War?

In terms of longrifles the F&I war period is very early. Not many exist that are believed to have been made in this time frame. You could argue our Colonial being from this period, but it is probably a stretch. Not a rifle, but our new fowling piece could fit.

English walnut is the proper wood for these guns. Maple isn’t. I’ve never seen one of this period stocked in maple. We have sucomed to pressure and offer it. English is generally very expensive and not readily available, so we offer black walnut. Not all black walnut is highly porous. We...

    Awfully quiet over at Kiblers.

English, French, Turkish etc. is all the same species. Region and growing conditions do make a difference. If we can find a reasonable source for English walnut, we’ll offer it as an upgrade to the black walnut. Almost all guns like this were stocked in English walnut. Black walnut is a cost...

    Kibler Colonial Trigger Install?

1/16” in stock and trigger. Put the trigger in the slot, line up the hole and tap a pin in. As simple as this. If you have trouble lining up the pin, take an undersized drill bit to run through the stock and trigger to align things.

No, the finishing products mentioned above are not available right now. We'll be getting things together fairly soon. Thanks, Jim

We will probably offer a stain package to help the black walnut look more like proper English walnut. Besides this, filling pores is an option which I like. Again, we’ll probably offer a dark filler. After this, just your favorite stock finish.

Yes, exactly. Walnut is just more appropriate.

The barrel is very smooth. Don't let the pictures fool you. Sometimes photos can be really misleading. The bores are professionally produced by Rice (the best in the business) and are everything anybody could want. Again, trust us! I can honestly say, don't worry about trying to look out...

Mike in Fl, If you’ve not seen a three stage barrel before, the only conclusion to be drawn is that you’ve not studied many English or European fowling pieces.

    Kibler Colonial Trigger Install?

Sometimes there is a tiny film of wood that covers the exit of the hole in the lock mortice. Just tap a pin from the hole in the sideplate side through and you see the pin pop out. I need to deepen this drilled hole by a touch.

    Kibler Fowler available.

Taste is one thing, but just know this is the appropriate barrel for this gun to be historically correct. It is a very common profile on original guns of this style and period. Sometime what we find appealing is just a function of what is typically seen. Not many mainstream modern guns use...

    Kibler Fowler Pre Order

This barrel profile is not unusual when comparing it to barrels of the period made for export grade trade fowlers in England. This barrel is only unusual, when comparing it to barrels made today. Again, this is a very common barrel profile for a gun like this.

This is a very common barrel profile on trade guns, export grade fowling pieces or earlier period higher-end guns. Yes, those on the list have been contacted and many orders have been placed already. We'll open orders up to everyone else very soon. We're super excited to finally be able to...
