    Virginia smooth rifle

Mark Baker used and carried a .50 smooth barrel longrifle, and he never stepped away from historicaly correct everything. I always wanted one in .54. I imagine they would be so easy to clean. And a versatile smooth rifle looks exactly like a rifled gun. What great fun it would be experimenting...

    Sloppy rear sight….

I have tightened sights with a shim. Just cut one from a soda can and either tap it in the dovetail beneath the sight base or remove the sight and then tap both the shim and the sight into place. Or maybe get a traditional sight and file or stone it to tightly fit the dovetail. The trick there...

    Cleaning Kibler Woodsrunner?

I looked it up. Peroxide is a bleaching agent that can indeed be corrosive to metal and wood and wood finishes. Best to use diluted. I've always said there is something to be learned here every day. Actually I've never used it on a gun.

    60 year antelope 2024

Wow. That is a good story. I think maybe it could be expanded on to show how you and your father interacted, especially concerning your hunting adventures together, the emotions experienced when you lost himhow you coped with carrying on afterwards, the memories of him when you ventured out...

Patent Breech Investarms Hawken failures to fire

I am no one, an authority on nothing, a person with limited knowledge. But I have never understood why Tripe 7 or any substitute powder sells. If you like black powder guns, why desire or buy what didn't even exist when muzzleloaders were all that was available. Maybe people buy it because they...

Anyone have photos of finished Colonials with barrel and lock left in the white?

I prefer rust brown on the barrel even though the process is slow. Somehow, in my brain, a flintlock rifle barrel should be a deep brown, smooth like the underside of a Hershey bar. A builder taught me how. Preparing a browning box and using a proper wet heat procedure ensures such a finish...

    Traditions Kentucky Rifle Deluxe Version

Why the 2 piece stock? There is a reason, I'm sure. I've heard their accuracy is as good as any. We see them a lot in movies and specials about history.

Investarms Santa Fe .36 Range Update!

Consistency. If fouling builds while shooting (and it does,) then without cleaning, consistency goes out the window. If we can shoot a particular plural number of times without cleaning and we actually do that, we can't say we are being consistent. The most we can say is that we can load and...

    Humpback flints, a quick haircut

Great post! Very timely for me. I have a dozen to do. Bought some diamond Drremmel stones but haven't tried 'em yet. They won't let me play with my muzzleloading stuff here in the hospital.
