Patent Breech Investarms Hawken failures to fire

I have found my Lyman/Pedersoli GPR doesn't like the powder dumped in, but trickled while tapping the butt plate on the ground as it goes in.

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

I ought not have called it vanity. Sometimes I screw up. Didn't mean to ruffle feathers. A shrink would likely tell me I'm jealous of those with beautiful rifles.

    Hickock 45 Dry Balls It

Me either. He's not such a nice fellow off camera.

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

I agree. A rifle with machine carving (let's assume it's a Kibler) is not unique or custom in the sense of "special" because others are just like it, while hand carving is one of a kind even if the pattern is basically the same. I guess paying for ANY carving is vanity, and if I want to be vain...

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

Not just carving, but ANY decoration on a muzzleloader is functionless and has vanity as its motive. I don't like it. Just like engravings on an unmentionable, it merely adds to the cost. Not only that, but if the owner uses a gun with a carved stock, it will gather dings and scratches, and how...

Who among us are PIPE smokers?

I'm of the opinion that if you do not smoke a pipe because you fear health consequences you ought not speak about those concerns to those who do. Obviously those who smoke pipes and enjoy it do not share your concerns. So why tell them they are wrong, especially if you engage in other activities...

Well, here’s my woodsrunner (pic heavy)

Wow. The finish is amazing. Looks like a liquid surface. I almost expect it to move.

    Dark Finish on standard maple

I've noticed a trend in stock coloring, in my area at least. In the 80S it seemed most wanted light shades of stain, darker in the 90s, and very dark now. The prettiest stock I ever had I left the color up to the builder having seen rifles he had made. That wa about 1978. He made the walnut very...

Very interesting. You know your stuff.

Kibler fowler - Has anyone shot round ball?

You sound confident in bending the barrel. Have you done that before? I'd be freaked out by that. Can you look down the barrel and see the bend? And how do you know how much to bend it? It seems to me it would no longer fit the barrel channel. My ignorance is because I've never owned or fired a...

Phooey, I posted that twice. I thought the first one didn't go thru.

    patch knife?

I don't think we can declare or say as fact that the 16th and 17th folks didn't have patch knives or short starters. They would certainly have the means to make such things. About the strongest thing we can say we can say circumstantial evidence indicates they did not and that none have been...

    patch knife?

I don't t I don't think we can know or declare there were no patch knives or ball starters. All we really have is circumstantial evidence. Just like ball starters and flintlock Hawkens. I think we should consider what COULD have been made. Maybe there were individuals living here and there who...
