.62 smoothbore as an all around gun?

Except Kibler's Colonial does not come in .62; but his fowler does. I'm one of the few who are not so down on Pedersoli. I've never had a defective one and their flintlock just needs a bit of tweaking if it is slow. The right kind of flash hole liner will render the lock to be as reliable as...

    '24 Hunting Season

Congrats! I am jello. I'm stuck in this wheelchair until surgery next month. I think I'm gonna miss the whole dern season. But watch out next year!

Starting my winter pistol build early

Methinks you have building experience a'plenty. I'm impressed. Will the finished product be for you, for sale, for a gift?

    32 Crockett cleaning headaches

What about not using a jag. Instead use a wire cleaning brush (not steel) made for a 22. Wrap the patch around that without making too many laps of fabric. I'm guessing - never had a 32.

    3F in a .54?

Well then, you can take credit for a perfect assembly and a good foundational knowledge of feeding flintlock longrifles.

My latest daydream: A Kibler escopeta ...

Uh oh. You said a bad thing about Pedersoli. I'm tellin'.

3F powder vs. 2F in .54cal flintlock rifle

I would not have thought that. I will try it. Good to know.

    3F in a .54?

Terrific. I haven't justfinely tuned to that point. I hope I can.

New from Virginia - where do I start?

That is good to hear. When you see Frank tell him I said hi. I haven't seen him since I attended VSP academy with him in 1970. He graduated first in the class, me second. I've often thought about him. Mike Gibbs.

    Ballistol-based lube?

That makes sense. I learn something new here daily.

New from Virginia - where do I start?

Oh my! I relied to the wrong post. Sorry. meant that for TransYank.

New from Virginia - where do I start?

Buckingham! A pretty and peaceful place. You ever meet Frank Knott? He's a fellow I knew who might still live there.

    Now I will clean it.

I meant not me. If I fire it, it gets cleaned that day. You are right that rust can be removed, I just don't like it on my guns. I am all for each individual doing what works for them, but my OCD won't let a dirty muzzle loader stay that way overnight.

    Ballistol-based lube?

I mean what works, not parts work. Stupid auto correct.

    Ballistol-based lube?

Alex, you are right to use part works, but I have a question that sprung from my ignorance. If you mix the Ballistol with water and then let the patches dry, is that not the same as NOT mixing with water?

    3F in a .54?

Trying to zero my Colonial .54 using 3F was futile. I tried every combination of powder charge, patch thickness, and ball size and could get no decent group even at 25 yards. Then I read something here about 2F in .54 so I bought a can. Instant improvement. Settled on 80 grains. All I need now...

Welcome, Andy. In what part of VA do you live?

    How clean is your bore?

Thank you, SDS. He sort of pushes the buttons who dare to question him. He's new and may learn to be respectful. If not, he will likely not be here long. I'm just going to back away and leave him be. Anyway, thanks for having my back.

    Contacted Kibler about Hawkins rifle.

Oh my, I didn't mean to rile anyone up. I suppose I forgot we are all different.
