    What is this used for?

As time went on, they seem to have lost purpose and were just ornamental, such as the one on the red belt. However, the design has been around since at least the 18th century.

    What is this used for?

I can see how the flint knapping hammer part could be used to tighten the flint screw. I like the idea of being able to straighten the ramrod but most of the holes are too small to fit the circumference of one. A breechplug wrench is an interesting idea, this is why I posed the question here...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

There is beautiful nature out here, unfortunately the most gorgeous is in Nagorno-Karabakh and cut off by our not so friendly neighbors at the moment. On a positive note, came across this interesting 3/4 stocked Khirimi that appears to have originally been fitted with a western styled flintlock...

    What is this used for?

Hello all, I have been looking for answer to this for sometime and decided to reach out to the general muzzleloading community for some speculation. These are traditional mutli tools used by mountain men of the Caucasus and Cossacks. One of the known uses was that of a screwdriver for their...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

If he is coming through Armenia, tell em to get a hold of me, not much in the way of muzzleloaders out here, but have plenty of other things to see and do. Sometimes you get lucky and come across an auction that doesn't know what it is and labels it middle eastern/african/afghanistani and sells...

Can anyone supply a list of states where a BP gun must go to an FFL holder?

Untrue, California & Oregon do not require FFL for muzzleloaders and certainly are not banned. I have read that WA requires an FFL for inline muzzleloaders but it was through a forum similar to this with people spouting whatever comes to their head like in this thread... so I take that with a...

    Maximum Range Flintlock

That rifle I posted above is from the 1680's and the Ottoman Shishane rifles tended to have that style peep sight from then till they stopped making them in the 19th century. Or if you prefer even earlier...

    An Arab snaphaunce

Always fascinating hearing about your travels, Rudyard! Were the photos mine or had I rights to them, I'd certainly consider it. I've just been blessed with a lot more free time since I moved to Armenia and spend some of it hunting down historical photos (vintage cameras and photography are...

    Ottoman Guns

I just came across these very interesting photos of gunsmith shops in Bethlehem. Like many of these areas, it was part of the Ottoman Empire from the 16th century till 1918.
