    Weird eBay flintlock

The replies people put when they have no idea what something is flabbergasts me. I’m glad we have some knowledgeable people who are versed in something beyond Hawken and Longrifle types otherwise everything else would be designated garbage/Khyber pass/tourist fake etc Philip, congrats on the...

    Interesting Blunderbuss

Yes, but I’ve seen Italian barrels on Albanian guns and Turkish barrels on Austrian guns, maybe someone knows this style or perhaps the A.H. stamp?

    Interesting Blunderbuss

Came across this in an antique arms shop in Bulgaria. Guy says it’s French, and I do seem to remember seeing some French shotguns with this style stock but not this type of decoration. Any ideas? Belgian proof Unknown (to me) marking

    Greek Flintlock "Kariophili" dated 1846

I was very lucky this was labeled as a "North African Jazail", so I got it for a very good price

    Ottoman Guns

Had a brief visit to Brescia, Italy and saw that they had some Algerian style Agujenta locks on display. I hadn’t considered these were made in Italy for their market.

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Very likely could be the case, Iran (Safavid Empire) had control and influence over the Caucasus for a long time This is an illustration of a Persian soldier circa 1600 I forgot to mention the Khirimis that were on display in the Yerevan museum were used during the Russo-Persian War 1826-28...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

There are examples in the USA, they just tend to be very pricey. Have to keep your eyes peeled at auctions, gunbroker prices are astronomical. But our resident Circassian gunsmith @peserey can build you a new one HIS WEBSITE had them listed before I saw that a few days ago, interesting Spanish...

Need help Identifying this Blunderbuss and authenticity. Thanks

It sparks and the barrel looks solid, probably real. These were very popular in the Ottoman Empire, usually in the Arabic regions (Middle East) Though there are a number of newer made guns not meant for firing made in North Africa, it has nothing to do with the Khyber Pass. The earliest example...

    Ottoman Guns

The only explanation I can think of is that it was all most of them knew and what they learned on. Whenever I have taken someone shooting for the first time, their natural inclination (despite my having shown them) is to shoulder the gun in the most unnatural ways. Stock under the armpit...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Thank you! I live in Armenia so I'll just take the train, the bus or possibly (my favorite) hitchhike. I have visited the Istanbul Military Museum but not the Topkapi Palace, it's on the list!

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

I just stumbled across this movie on youtube "Prince Marukh: The Road to Courage" that takes place sometime in the mid 19th century and features Caucasian arms in use. They are speaking Circassian, but the subtitles are Russian. Haven't sat down to watch it yet but scrolled around to see some...

    Ottoman Guns

Here are some paintings from Egypt that show the use of the Albanian Tanchica. Albanians were used extensively as Police, Bashi-Bazouk (Mercenaries), and Military Personnel in Egypt by the Ottomans. As a matter of fact, the famous leader of Egypt, Muhammed Ali, was Albanian and every ruler of...

    Greek Flintlock "Kariophili" dated 1846

On my example, the butt is a little more upturned and I don't find it very comfortable to shoulder and aim straight downrange. However, if pointing upwards, it rests comfortably, may have to take it trap or skeet shooting

    Greek Flintlock "Kariophili" dated 1846

I've not spent much time in Greece, but I have seen photos of reenactors with them and there is at least one builder making non firing replicas in Greece. I've seen a few in neighboring Bulgaria.
