    Ottoman Guns

I wanted to point out an interesting pattern I've seen a few times over the years. There is this diamond/checkerboard pattern inlaid stocks of which I'm unsure of the origin. They look similar to the Dzeferdars of Bosnia & Montenegro but I have only seen them with bone/ivory and not mother of...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

It is strange the stock form was so popular, I've asked collectors in the region and none of them had any theories of why. Here is another period photo of one but with a flintlock, carried by an Armenian Slick looking bag, need a Chokha coat as well to hold the Gaziri. Of the three powder...

    I wish I knew

As Sam said, top is a Moukhala from Morocco using a Snaphaunce lock and bottom is a Kabyle from Algeria using a Miquelet lock in the style of the Catalan "Agujeta". Should check the underside of the lock on the Kabyle, sometimes they are dated (in Arabic)

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Beautiful example of a cartridge case from around the 1820's. The most common way of carrying these cartridges or "Gaziri" was on pockets sewed onto the coat or "Chokha/Cherkesska" however, not all tribes in the Caucasus wore them. Azerbaijani outfit with a similar case from 1860's Drawing of...

    Ottoman Guns

Came across an auction with Portuguese gun (the lock is, at least) with an Ottoman barrel very interesting to see it stocked in a military carbine pattern rather than a fancy sporting gun

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

I found a better photo to see the differences in the models Infantry Dragoon Cossack Carbine Here's a technical drawing of the Model 1860, essentially the Model 1844 but rifled and with a rear sight. This was the first military issued cossack model with ball trigger And if i'm not mistaken...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

Unfortunately, I have no info as nor did the seller. Anything is possible in the imagination. On which model in particular? There is scarce information in English but I have some access to Russian literature. The Berdan has a much slimmer stock, shorter barrel, three thin barrel bands, button...

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

A couple of interesting, unusual pistols. First is what seems to be a wheel lock converted to matchlock or even just matchlock done to resemble a wheel lock. Next is a side hammer or “mule ear”

Caucasian Miquelet "Cossack" Pistol & Locks

A point of interest, I’ve done some digging and found some information on the original prices for these guns in the Caucasus in the 18th century. According to one document, a gun made in Istanbul cost 6 Tumani which was equal to the price of 6 oxen. Looking at a county probate file in the US...
