    SCI Convention in Nashville.

The issue I'm more concerned with is the scientific and unnatural manipulation of actual genetics in laboratories to produce massively giant racks that in no way represent what is possible in nature. These labs are producing bucks that as yearlings can produce racks over 100" and at 2 1/2 yo...

    SCI Convention in Nashville.

Some REALLY nice Sable mounts. Sable and big Kudu bulls just amaze me. Good to see a representation of traditional guns and accouterments. Was surprised to see a number of Whitetail mounts that appear to be farmed genetically contrived specimens. Does SCI allow farmed deer into its records?

    Tree Rat & Grain Thief

Nice looking kit. The fusil is gorgeous! 😍 Congrats on the grain thief!

Ramrods, Hunting, other than wood ....

I have used wooden ramrods without issue and prefer them. That said, I had a .62 caliber Jaeger that required the ramrod tapering all the way down to 5/16". That particular rifle also required an exceptionally tight PRB to shoot it's very best, which really was the tightest grouping rifle I...

    Poor Big Ted!

THANK GOD!!! When I first saw the post title I thought that maybe you hadn't cleaned Big Ted for 7 or 8 months and you found a spot of rust on him, or some other major physical disaster like accidently using 1F or 2F!!! 😲 So glad it was that you only almost hurt Ted's feelings! Great hunt...

Not sure if I can make this happen but…..

Degrading accuracy, though minimal, is a given as the aperture hole size increases past a certain point, but may be different by individual depending on their pupil diameter in varying light conditions: The theory of operation behind the aperture sight is often stated that the human eye will...

Not sure if I can make this happen but…..

IIRC, standard aperture threading is 12-24. Your measurement looks pretty close. Apertures from someone like Williams would probably just screw in.

Not sure if I can make this happen but…..

I have shot peeps a lot and they are GREAT for hunting. I found a .125 aperture to allow me to shoot from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset...maybe not quite if its cloudy. .150 is better for darker, but that is where I started noticing groups at longer yardages opening...

    Hey Kibler

When I ordered my SMR kit a couple years ago I specifically asked Jim if I could get a barrel with no rear dovetail. Answer was "No." Period. Maybe that's changed, but I doubt it. If he starts making exceptions, then pretty soon his business model becomes inefficient. It's very easy to fill...

    WANTED Original Hawkin.

I'm not in the market, but if I were, I would be hiring a known knowledgeable top Hawken collector to aid me in ensuring that whatever I'm considering is truly an original from the Hawken bros. Would hate to spend that kind of ching to find out I had been duped. I would not trust an auction...

    Finally Connected with a Flintlock!!!

Congrats! 👍 I can't see all of her, but from what I can see she looks like a whopper!

Waited all year to hunt in the snow...

1025R. I usually plow with my Polaris Sportsman 500 HO, but that particular storm dumped nearly 3' of heavy wet snow on us. The ATV does an amazing job for me, but this was just too much for it. It did start to make a path down the drive but ended up buried! The little 3 cylinder diesel...

Waited all year to hunt in the snow...

I love hunting in cold and snow. Jan/Feb small game is a favorite as is late season deer. Almost no one is out...a few antler hunters. It's quiet and peaceful. Use snow to wash out carcasses in the field. No ticks or mosquitoes. Of course when it comes to cold & snow, one has to take the...

    Flintlock Hog Kill

You are correct on a roundball's killing power. A .54 with a PRB is awesome on game...my favorite. Congratulations! 👍

    T/C 1000+ Replacement?

Always interesting how different people have different results. Been hunting with Tracks Mink Oil for many years in Minnesota cold of WELL below freezing, including below zero. No issues with it being stiff or causing cut patches. My experience was that Bore Butter was much, much stiffer...

    First kill with a flintlock

Congratulations! :thumb: If I may ask, how did you get into traditional muzzleloader hunting? Clearly we need to duplicate the process!

    Mink Oil

I have been using Mink Oil for years. Very light coating on one side of a patch. You don't need to slather it on. Great results. Like DES52, I use same lube for practice and hunting.
