.32 caliber frustrations with not grouping.

A Jacobson chuck will go down to zero. Bits go down to finer than a hair. You are right about the diameter, though. Lots of us old timers used a matchbook cover to set spark plugs to .032.

    Starting fires with patches

Patches soaking wet with moose milk. We watch new members, and if they have smoldering patches, we have them switch lubes before they can shoot on our ranges again. Our last shoot until rains come, is this Saturday. It's at our river range, and is damper than other sites. Fire danger extreme...

    Help Please.

It appears to have a powder chamber already to show you the proper load.

    Ignition

Poor lock geometry. With a good lock you should get AT LEAST 100 shots. The consensus among out local shooters is 120 shots is pretty average, and I have had one gun that went for 187 shots before I sold it, and I know the lady got quite a few more shots from it.

Too many options for rifle build

We shoot year around, rain or shine. If parts are too tight and things get wet, they can and do run a chance of splitting. Different climates make a difference.

    India Barrel Failure

US barrels aren't tested until they are made into a firearm. Then it's up to the builder to assure their self the finished firearm is safe.

Too many options for rifle build

I think the only thing I really had to do on a Woodsrunner was enlarge the lock mortise slightly, to reduce possibility of splitting the wood in wet conditions. As it came, it would have needed forced in, whereas a lock should basically fall out in your hand when the bolts are removed, and the...

    Brazier/double brazier stands

Considering how many other things people have that are out of place, I wouldn't fret about it. Cast iron, wooden furniture, fire irons wouldn't have been hauled around in the bush.

Too many options for rifle build

Go with a swamped barrel on a rifle for sure. Flint rifles are easier to build. I'd forget the chunk gun idea, you would be shooting alone a lot if you aren't near a group who already use them. If I could only have one? Flintlock smooth bore for the versatility.

Pedersoli 20 gauge Howdah wad punch size

I need to go upstairs to check. I must have the wrong number there. The one I use gives a very good fit on a 20 bore.

I use a #11 Osbourne punch for my 20 bore cards.

    What to do?

I think it is something put together in the past 50 years from salvaged parts. I see some real alarm bells. That lock and barrel combination was never put together by any reputable builder. But if you like the family story, own it.

When your range rod doesn't go "clank"

Uhhhh.... you guys need to have someone teach you how to clean a muzzleloader. I despair when reading these topics.

Carbon arrows in a self bow is equivalent to dry firing the bow.

whats your favorite part of muzzleloading, what keeps you hooked?

Most of our group are back country mountain people, very few city folks. They are the only group I can be around and feel comfortable. I've been to rendezvous around cities, I won't go back. They are too noisy and show offs. They only start to become decent people after 4-5 days in camp, after...

.32 caliber frustrations with not grouping.

Another thing, with that bore size, your patching is too thick. You will need muslin patches, with the right size balls. I would go for a lower viscosity lube, too. At the time, you don't have a basis for any kind of a "scientific" study.

Go to the museum in Chouteau, Montana to see a skeleton with arrow heads embedded.

Bow and arrow verses Flint Guns

I think Garcia's remarks were off target. A Trapdoor with a cast bullet certainly doesn't leave a wound like he describes, even with a flat nosed projectile. I do agree with his assessment of the Henry. I had one, and could just never get used to a rifle where you could watch the bullet fly all...
