    Ignition Woes

Did you check to ascertain the hole in the nipple is clear and of the proper size? If the nipple is not the proper size and/or application it can make a difference. I went through this with my CVA Hawken. What patch lube are you using? No petroleum products in the system anywhere? Also, It...

Shot the old Lyman 54 some yesterday

Those patches look okay overall. However, that does not mean you’re not getting some blow by, perhaps that is causing more fouling. If it were me, I’d still try some .018 quality ticking. The tighter patch/ball, the better, generally speaking. Unless this manual has been superseded, 100 grains...

Shot the old Lyman 54 some yesterday

Your are shooting an overload. Per the Lyman manual for the .54 GPR the maximum loading of 3F is 100 grains. This is on PDF that I tried to post but it will not do so. That may be part of the fouling issue. The other is the .015 patches instead of .018 patches. Have you inspected any recovered...

UPS has outdone itself. I'm actually impressed by how massive of a failure this is, even Kiblers famous crates are no match! INSURE YOUR STUFF FOLKS!

I don’t even know how it’s possible for someone could break it like that. It took a lot of force to accomplish such.

Thanks, Fred. Indeed, no sense in rushing it. Can’t see squat out of my left eye so I might as well wait until after the 10th when the left eye gets done. If the left eye turns out anything like the right eye, I’ll be good to squirrel hunt after the 11th.

Question About HAZMAT Shipments (Black Powder)

My last two orders from Graf’s I had to show ID and FedEx took a picture of it.

It appears that right eye surgery went well yesterday. I could see fairly well when I got out of surgery. Not great but not bad. Couldn’t help myself so after I got home I took a peek with Mr. Crockett. I could see the front sight fairly well but the tang peep was a blur. Had to be at the...

    Grease hole

If I had a SMR that I used as a primary squirrel rifle, I wouldn't mind having a grease hole in the stock. I most likely would not use it. Rather I would probably fill it with beeswax instead. However, there's no denying they make a SMR look authentic. Years ago, the first time I saw a grease...

If the eye doctors cannot seem to get your corrected lenses prescription right so as to get rid of the fuzziness, that might be due to cataracts. It definitely is in my circumstance. Generally speaking, insurance companies will not cover cataracts removal until your corrected vision gets to...

    Grease hole

Indeed. They sure make a SMR look like an original/authentic.

Good luck, Cruiser. Please see my post above. Perhaps that will help you some on your quest. The only way I finally got somewhere was by holding my eye docs feet to the fire before she finally gave me a referral to see an eye surgeon for a glare test and other precise testing. If/when vision...

That's what I was thinking. Its tough to get VA and insurance companies to pay for anything but the minimum. I have been fighting eye doctors for several years before one finally referred me to a specialist for a glare test and special eye equipment testing. I failed them badly. That's the only...

Indeed. Friday is supposed to be the day we see the results of it here. As I have said, I'm glad on all fronts. We are in a big time drought, and have been for 2 years. So IF we get much rain, it will help a little but unless more is to follow, it will be short lived. Secondly is the wind...

Actually, Mike, yes it can. Not saying that it will turn out that way for me, but it can and does for most people. Indeed, cataract is the cause. However, with removal they can install different style of lenses. Its a matter of how much one wants to pay. I chose the best ones available that...

Thank you, sir. Just heard from a friend. He said a family member just had that surgery and now she is testing out to 20/15. I would be so happy if I could get back to that status again with my vision.

Well fella’s, if the weather people are correct in their forecast, things are looking up for the squirrel woods. I’ve been waiting for this to happen. Friday winds forecast to be 22 MPH gusting to 47 MPH. If that happens, it will surely knock down much, if not most, of the nut crops from the...

I can imagine so. As it is now, much of the time it’s like trying to look through a piece of plastic lunch baggie. It’s like there’s a film over my eyes that changes, depending on the lighting. Sometimes it’s worse than others. Where things becoming worse is the eye doctors cannot seem to ever...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Thanks fellas. Surgery is early Thursday morning for the right eye. Two weeks later is the left eye. Yes, the surgeon and I had a pow wow about hunting. He is a big hunter and precision shooter as well. Mike, I’ll definitely post the results. I did just get some good news about this...
