T/C #7194 tang mounted peep sight

Yep, only one hole needs be drilled and tapped. However, by installing a TC peep according to those directions, it should help by not having to raise the peep as high for a conical. In short, the peep would be mounted a little higher that way. I chose to use the existing rear tang screw as the...

T/C #7194 tang mounted peep sight

Yes, probably could do that, depending on the specific application. Might not work out so well if one wanted to shoot RB as well. On my New Englander, I’m running the stock front sight. So, a shorter one might cause one to take a pounding on the cheek bone. Recoil is fairly high with a 370...

Which is historically correct, precut patches or cut at muzzle?

After a year of testing, I’m convinced that a loading block is faster and requires less movement in the woods. This is especially true for squirrel hunting.

Which is historically correct, precut patches or cut at muzzle?

    Thanks, Greg. Interesting for sure.

    SC deer,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Good luck olskool. They know when it’s safest to come out. I have a couple of nice ones doing the same thing here. Trail cam proves it.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

My primary Crockett has the factory rear sight on it but I’ve filed it down quite low. My GPR has the rear sight removed. It was faulty. I have not plugged the dovetail slot as of yet but it’s on my to do list. Still waiting on my vision before making a final determination. Not sure what I’ll...

T/C #7194 tang mounted peep sight

The TC peeps are very compact and streamlined when compared to the Lyman 57. I have both mounted on different ML’s. IMO, the Lyman is the most bulkiest and worse peep ever sold. It is boxy, ugly and hangs out way too far off of the side of the rifle. So much so that I do not like laying my GPR...

10 spot, I'm shooting the .50 (1/2") tall sights. I had to do a fair amount of filing on the dovetails to get them to fit my Crockett and my GPR. Completely doable. This will give you the additional height needed for your peep. FWIW, on my last order I got a little larger aperture on my last...

Storing your powder and pouring it

In terms of something to catch the spilled powder, a simple piece of paper works great and is all I ever use. I fold it in the center first then open it back up. I use small plastic lab tubes to put pre-measured powder into. After filling a powder measure about 8-10 times, scraping off the...

    Nipple wrench for Crocket rifle

I thought I finally found one at Deer Creek but when I went to their web site it is not specifically listed to be for a Crockett. Time to make some phone calls to Deer Creek and Traditions. This is ridiculous. If they are that difficult to find, then Traditions should supply one with each...

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

Not sure but in terms of squirrels, since last week I've been hearing a few strange, newer sounding squirrels here in KY. For some reason, they have a real, long, southern Georgia, NC or SC like drawl to their voices. Can't seem to figure it out. Its a real head-scratcher for sure. In terms of...

Hello 10 spot. It is a pearl bead front sight from made by Marble Arms. It is a fine/smaller front sight/bead which I much prefer to use on squirrels. After purchasing and installing them on my Crockett Squirrel Rifle and my GPR, my vision took a turn for the worst, due to cataracts. Before, it...

    Ignition Woes

Yep, been doing that since I began in the early 80’s. Between that and snapping a cap after cleaning and prior to loading, I don’t have misfires.

Shot the old Lyman 54 some yesterday

If I had that much I’d sure soot it too. Black powder smoke is cool, no doubt. I would, however, reduce the charge and use a tighter patch/ball combo. By doing those two things, as well as spit patches or some sort of cleaner incorporated as a patch lube, it should most certainly cut down on...

    Nipple replacement

Indeed. Nipples are a consumable item. The hole in them will change over time, depending on the amount of shots. IMO, for as affordable as they are, it makes perfectly good sense to purchase, and keep, several on hand. TOTW stainless nipples have proven to hold up well for me. Order several at...

More Misfire Issues - Investarms 54 Caliber

Same here. Never a problem. TC’s, CVA, Traditions, and Lyman. There has been widespread reports of many Pedersoli’s having issues, however. Not all by no means. If one properly cleans one, then not an issue.

    Ignition Woes

I really do not know off of the top of my head, as to the proper size of hole in the nipple. I don’t have anything handy to measure mine with. In terms of the flash hole; it sounds like your cleaning regimen is sound. However, I’m wondering if there may be a smaller chunk of rust in there that...

Which is historically correct, precut patches or cut at muzzle?

My guess is, back then it most likely would have been depending on the circumstance/situation. I would reckon that most of the real woodsman cut at the muzzle. I can tell you with absolute certainty that if I only big game hunted, cutting at the muzzle would be fine, even though I have never...
