How often do you guys take apart and oil your locks?

I remove the lock each time and run the water slowly over pan and frizzen area and scrub lightly with toothbrush then wipe with paper towel and set in the sun to dry. Completely disassemble only if needed from visual inspection.

Investarms Santa Fe .36 Range Update!

Try spit patch or washer fluid instead of the greasy stuff. Might let the ball bump up better to seal the bore.

    Flints

Looks better than the ones I hammer out.

    .36 rifle accuracy at distance

I don’t think there will be much difference from your 40. I shoot a 36 sometimes at local club matches and get some respectable groups at the 100y range, like 4” You can get some pretty good velocity out of it.

    Only one muzzle loading rifle

Issac Haines style probably in 45. Not overly long, great ergonomics and very comfortable to shoot off hand or rested. I’ve owned a bunch of different styles and nothing compares IMHO.

    Touch Hole Picks!

I use rebar tie wire and hang one from each trigger guard.

    Swamped barrel on a .45

    Homemade caps and Accuracy.

    Amen to that!

    Homemade caps and Accuracy.

Once you get a kit it cheap to make from then on. I’m not paying stupid money for commercial caps. Most of my offhand shooting is flintlock.

    Homemade caps and Accuracy.

I’ll try them this Saturday in our bench rest match. It would be nice to use the chronograph but not possible during the match. My rifle is ten ring accurate on the roundball and slug gun 6 bull targets so we will see.

    Homemade caps and Accuracy.

Haven’t tried any of my caps yet from the sharpshooter mixture stuff. Idea is to use them in my bench rest rifle which shoots pretty good groups with Olympic sights and one of them not talked about actions. Got to pondering about how accuracy may be affected since the caps are so hard to get a...

    .32 Crockett Pistol?

Use the sear engagement screw to lighten the trigger pull.

    Yep that’s it.

    Iridescent balls

And to keep the mold hot the lead needs to be reasonably hot.

    The "Order of Assembly" Question

I think I own that rifle now.

    Iridescent balls

I use X-ray room shielding also and have several hundred pounds. Like several have said it’s almost too hot. I just switched from and old small LEE electric pot that didn’t get hot enough for me even when maxed out. It would not color the lead and made hardly any dross on top. Broke out a new...

    Patch lube, spit or lube?

All that matters is how it shoots. My bench rest rifle shoots shotgun patterns with greasy lubes particularly bore butter and one hole groups with liquid hand sanitizer 10 cents a gallon now.
